Our CEO, Jeff Paterson, is in Albany fighting the good fight for the I/DD community.

He’s standing alongside colleagues from across New York State to advocate for the people we support, their families, and our workforce.

Over the past few years, increased state investment from Governor Kathy Hochul has helped us make progress.

Our staff have received raises, and we’ve been able to invest in training, buildings, and expanded services.

But there’s more work to do. While this year’s proposed budget includes an increase, it’s not quite enough to fully meet the needs of the system. So the advocacy continues.

We’ll be staying in touch as this process moves forward. Thanks for supporting sasi and the work we do.

Stay warm, Jeff! 🥶

“What I’m most excited about is getting to invite my aunt over for a meal. She helped me out a lot when I didn’t have a home of my own…” - Walter

When the right support meets the right moment, something truly life-changing can happen.

Meet Walter, a Buffalo native who reached out to sasi in search of something many of us take for granted… a place to call home.

After experiencing homelessness for more than a year, Walter was facing an increasingly difficult and uncertain future.

Through coordinated supports and timely intervention, he was approved for an emergency transition stipend that helped pull him out of an extremely challenging and vulnerable situation.

The stipend covered most of his security deposit and provided $3,000 to furnish his new apartment, turning an empty space into a safe, livable home and marking the beginning of a new chapter.

With continued supports, including a rental subsidy, sasi’s housing subsidy program will provide ongoing monthly check-ins to ensure Walter remains safely housed in a supportive apartment he can call his own.

Please join us in sending Walter a big congratulations on his new home. We are so happy for him!

📣 Support staff needed through Self-Directed Services

We’re sharing an opportunity for someone interested in supporting a person who uses Self-Direction.

This individual is a woman in her mid-20s living in a certified setting and is looking for staff to assist her with pursuing her hobbies and interests.

She enjoys being out in the community and would love to:
• Walk in parks and explore nature
• Visit the science museum and the aquarium
• Explore community events and classes

Self-Direction allows people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to build supports around what matters most to them — and the right staff help make those experiences possible.

While sasi is not the employer, our Support Broker helps connect people who self-direct with staff who may be a good fit.

Today we want to recognize two of the incredible people we support for their bravery during a scary moment..

Jackie and Shawn showed quick thinking and selflessness during a medical emergency involving one of our staff members.

Without hesitation, Jackie called 911. At the same time, Shawn reached the staff member to check on him and calmly relay critical information to emergency services until help arrived.

In a stressful moment, they showed compassion, bravery, and presence of mind. We are BEYOND grateful for the way they stepped up when it mattered most!

Not all heroes wear capes. Thank you, Jackie and Shawn ❤️❤️
