There are several Melissa and Doug sales to check out today, but this is ALWAYS a favorite of mine!

Arrives before Easter and can be used in so many ways to practice developmental skills that include :

1. Color ID
2. Patterns
3. Sorting
4. Fine Motor
5. Visual Motor

I love adding these beads to sensory bins, incorporating specific colors to match the theme (orange beads in carrot bins, red beads in lady bug bins, yellow beads in lemonade bins, etc.).

They last forever and are easy to clean.
If lacing is still too tricky for your little one, I suggest using a pipe cleaner in place of string for easier manipulation.

*I do not re receive any commissions from this link- just sharing the deets*

At Home Activity Of The Week: Magnetic Tile Chalk Puzzle

Looking for outdoor fun? Turn chalk and blocks into a creative puzzle adventure with this awesome idea from the blog "Happily Ever Mom"! Let your child's imagination run wild as they build 2D shapes and transform them into cool 3D creations.

🔹 Step 1: Make some 3D shapes out of magnetic tiles and flatten them on the ground.
🔹 Step 2: Outline the flat shapes with chalk.
🔹 Step 3: Invite your child to see how to build the 2D blocks into 3D shapes.

Alternatively, get your child involved right from the start: Let them create the shapes and help outline them with chalk!

It's not just about building and creating; it's also a fantastic way to connect with your kids!

🌱 Developmental Benefits:
🔸 Motor Skills: Enhances fine motor skills as children manipulate blocks and chalk.
🔸 Cognitive Skills: Promotes spatial awareness and problem-solving as they create 2D and 3D shapes.
🔸 Language Development: Encourages communication and vocabulary expansion as children discuss their creations.

I’ve always referred to my therapy bags as my “Barney Bag”- and for good reason! I can only imagine what the other folks at my lunch spot thought today as I dug all of this out just to find my laptop charger 😂.
You never know what you’ll find in there- tambourines, poms, light up blocks, and more!

Today I fell in love with my job…. again.

Today my heart about burst when one of our students was able to imitate letters.

Why these specific letters? Because they are made using vertical and horizontal lines only- a skill this student has mastered and performs confidently. We’ll build on this, eventually doing all uppercase and moving on to lowercase letters.

A year ago this student was still working on pre-writing shapes, with very little interest in paper/pencil tasks. Because we mastered pre-writing shapes first, they have a GREAT foundation for forming letters. They’ve even started pairing formation phrases with specific letters!

So proud of our student! What seems like a small win for some is a HUGE victory for others!

🎃🗣️ Happy Halloween: Trick-or-Treat and Talk! 🍬👻

Today's the day! As you embark on your Halloween adventures, remember that it's not just about candy – it's also a fantastic opportunity to practice social communication language skills with your little ones. Here's how:

👁️ Observation: Encourage your child to observe costumes and surroundings. Ask questions like, "What do you see?" or "Can you describe that spooky costume?"

🎤 Asking Questions: Teach them to ask polite questions when meeting neighbors or friends. "What's your favorite candy?" or "How did you choose your costume?"

🗨️ Engage in Conversation: When they receive treats, guide them to say "Thank you" and perhaps share a fun fact about their costume.

🤝 Sharing and Taking Turns: Remind them about the importance of sharing candy with siblings or friends and taking turns in the trick-or-treat line.

👻 Imaginative Play: Encourage imaginative play by pretending to be different Halloween characters and having conversations in character.

🧡 Fun with Friends: If they're trick-or-treating with friends, suggest group discussions about their favorite candies or the spookiest decorations they've seen.

This Halloween, not only will you fill their candy bags, but you'll also fill their communication toolboxes with skills that will last a lifetime!

🦇🖍️ At Home Activity of the Week: Coffee Filter Bats! 🎨🦇

Get spooky and creative with this fun, simple DIY bat craft using coffee filters! Here’s how to make your own:

1. Lay your coffee filter flat and color it with black, green, and purple markers in random patterns. 🎨🖤💜
2. Lightly spray the filter with water and watch as the colors bleed to completely fill your coffee filter. 💦
3. Let it dry, then fold the dried filter in half (semi-circle), fold again (cone), and fold once more to form a smaller cone. 📐
4. With it folded, cut a slight curve into the rounded part of the cone, then unfold it back to a semi-circle shape. ✂️
5. Cut a 1-inch slit in the center of the open side of the semi-circle.
6. Attach a clothespin just above the slit, centering it to form "wings" on either side.
7. Finish with eyes and a toothy grin using white markers, whiteout pins, or a toothpick dipped in paint. 👀😁

Therapists: Miss Chelsea and Miss Mandy report making the bats (like the one featured in our photo) was a big hit with their students last year! It's a great way to target hand strength (squeezing the bottle) and scissor skills (cutting the filter). Color the filter on a vertical surface to incorporate shoulder stability, bilateral motor coordination, wrist extension, and grasp. Have your older kiddos compose a sentence about their bat as a writing prompt to incorporate handwriting!

These cute bats make the perfect fall decoration! 🦇🍂
