Get Well Be Well

In 2009, I became very ill and was sent from doctor to doctor trying to get a diagnosis. After a couple hospitalizations, numerous tests, scopes, biopsies, and basically being a human pin cushion, I was given a diagnosis of Sarcoidosis. This disease is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks internal organs by creating scar tissue until eventually, the organ dies off. The bottom line is that I felt miserable, and the only thing Western medicine offered me was steroids, more tests, and frequent monitoring. I spent days/weeks/months continuing on from doctor to doctor, each for their own need to monitor me. I was completely exhausted by the process and decided that it really wasn't for me. I wanted to know why this happened to me; what caused it, and how do I get better because with Western medicine methods, I wasn't getting better. With this, my quest began of researching natural health. To get immediate relief I began acupuncture and Chinese herbs. I did remarkably well with this approach to begin, and I was deemed "healthy enough" to get pregnant if I wished, but I was to be closely monitored by a team of specialists throughout my pregnancy. Needless to say, I made it through my pregnancy fine and had a beautiful, healthy baby girl. I however, did not fair so well a couple months after the delivery. I was "warned" that my immune system would likely kick into overdrive, and it surely did. At that time, acupuncture and Chinese herbs were not in the budget after adding a tiny little person to the household. And so, I was subjected to more steriods. I knew I had to find a way to do it naturally but with something that was budget friendly. I started learning tidbits here and there over time that were proving to be helpful and was introduced to Reiki. Later, I decided to enroll in school. I knew that if I could find a way to help myself, surely I could find a way to help others too. I enrolled in and completed a Natural Health Practitioner degree program and became a Reiki Master as well. This journey to wellness has been so worth it as I've helped myself in tremendous ways, and now I'm helping other people on their journey to wellness. I am pleased to say that I haven't had a single flare up with my condition in over 3 years. It has taken practice, patience, and dedication. It has been a complete change in mindset; and so very worth it. Being well was my goal, but I had to get well to be well. It is the intention with this practice, that I be able to offer education and holistic approaches to those who are also seeking wellness in an affordable way.
