Weâve been fed this idea that a âgood parentâ keeps their kids happy at all times⌠but thatâs not real life, and honestly? Itâs not even the goal.
If your job is to make sure your child is always happy, you will:
1ď¸âŁ Burn yourself out trying to control the uncontrollable
2ď¸âŁ Teach your child that uncomfortable emotions mean something is âwrongâ
3ď¸âŁ Set the whole family up for unrealistic expectations
Our job isnât to prevent every frustration, disappointment, or meltdown.
Our job is to be firm and kind guides who hold boundaries, stay steady, and teach kids how to move through big feelings, not avoid them.
A child who never feels discomfort wonât learn resilience.
A parent who chases constant happiness will always feel like theyâre failing.
Itâs okay if your kid is upset.
Itâs okay if they donât like your boundary.
Youâre not doing anything wrong.
Youâre parenting.
Let them feel.
Let them learn.
And let yourself off the hook, too.
