We are deeply saddened by the passing of Don Hansen of ๐Ÿ’”

For decades, Hansen Surfboards has been more than just a surf shopโ€”it has been a cornerstone of the downtown Encinitas community. Donโ€™s influence extended far beyond surf culture; he helped shape countless lives through the welcoming spirit and sense of belonging his shop created. His passion, generosity, and commitment to the community left a lasting mark on all who walked through those doors. โœจ

As a long-standing anchor in our business district, Hansen Surfboards has played an integral role in defining the character and culture of Encinitas. Donโ€™s legacy will continue through his children, who carry forward the family business with the same dedication and heart. ๐Ÿ™Œ

We will truly miss Don and the impact he made. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to the Hansen family and their entire team during this difficult time. โค๏ธ

Her family moved here from Puerto Rico in 1975, and sheโ€™s been proud to call this community home ever since. She began her career in the corporate world as a GM, where she developed a deep appreciation for fashion and thoughtfully made goods. Before long, that passion grew into a calling for entrepreneurshipโ€”one that allowed her to create a life centered around both meaningful work and family. Over the years, she launched several businesses, including an environmentally sustainable cleaning company, a childrenโ€™s clothing line, and handmade baby carriersโ€”all rooted in care and intention. ๐Ÿซถ

For Meri, family and community have always guided her professional path. As a parent, she believes in raising children with sustainable values and encouraging nature-based play filled with creativity and curiosity. That same spirit has shaped Magical Child since 1995, creating a warm and welcoming space where families feel at home. ๐Ÿ 

Growing Magical Child alongside the families who walk through its doors has been one of her greatest joys. Relationships are at the heart of everything she does. Sheโ€™s watched little ones carefully choose their favorite toys, then return years later as high school and college students working their first jobsโ€”some now even bringing in children of their own. Celebrating 30 years in downtown Encinitas has been a true milestone, and welcoming second-generation Magical Child families is something she treasures deeply.
When sheโ€™s not at the shop, youโ€™ll likely find Mericonnecting with friends and neighbors over tacos at City Taco or enjoying a glass of wine at Blue Ribbon Pizzeria! ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿฅ‚
