Join Artist and MMIWG2S Advocate Tara Evonne Trudell as she opens her space to create tangible prayers to help us back to our heart and purpose as we grapple with yet another tragic loss to our communities - Challistia “Tia” Colelay. In honor of Tia and all our relatives who leave us too soon in this unending cycle of generational trauma, we will gather and grieve while we create art to uplift us. The beading process of our collective grief and despair is our medicine and offers us a place to gather and strengthen our hearts.

• We will write and type our prayers and roll special ancestor beads to give us strength to continue on with our purpose, love, and protection for our children.
• Please bring your own remembrance names/stories to create your own prayer bead regalia.
•All supplies will be provided though you are welcome to bring your own special beads to add to your healing strand. Atole & fresh desserts will be offered so please join us for this needed grief respite.

Thank you in advance for understanding that this special gathering is focused on the well-being of MMIWG2S advocates and family members at this time. Our unified, grieving hearts will offer prayers for precious Ancestor Tia Colelay and her family during these very distressing times.

📊 Did you know? While home births still make up a small share of all U.S. births — about 1.4% in 2021 — the biggest growth in community births (home or birth-center) has been among Indigenous, Hispanic, and Black families. From 2019–2020 community births rose 30% for Black parents, 26% for Indigenous parents, and 24% for Hispanic parents. At Breath of My Heart, this trend reflects something we see every day: families reclaiming culturally-grounded birthing traditions by choosing midwifery care instead of a conventional hospital birth. Why? Because they want to feel connected, safe, and rooted. 🧡 Whether birthing at home or in our birth center, we ensure families receive culturally-relevant support, community, and choice. The Halloween to the New Year time period is characterized by lots of sweet goodies and a calendar full of social events. As yummy and fun as it can be, it's also a recipe for lowered immunity and stress resilience, making us vulnerable to getting sick. We invite you to join us for our monthly Family Support Circle with Tauz TamuPovi who will facilitate a discussion around ways to keep ourselves and our kids healthy during the holidays. Let's strategize together so we can enjoy this season with our health intact! Learn more: breathofmyheart.org/community-support/
