I’m so sad that no one’s told you the truth about anxiety.

That they haven’t bothered to sit down and really explain to you what’s going on

So you know — *it’s not your fault*

It never was.

You’re not “crazy.” You’re not “doomed.”

You aren’t and you never were.

You’re just experiencing something that your brain and body are set up for.

What you deserved was a *real* explanation.

I’m so sorry that never happened.

I want you to know — you’re not alone and it’s not your fault.

When I started calming my anxiety, I was so embarrassed to realize all the times I hadn’t seen things accurately.

I thought about the great friend I’d cut off

The musical theater career I gave up

The fact that everyone I met loved me and thought I was great
but I couldn’t accept it.

It felt like 20 years of my life had been one huge overreaction.

So many things I thought were REALLY wrong weren’t

AND then I couldn’t move on from the things that HAD gone badly.

I got stuck
obsessing over them, going over them in my head, feeling terrified they’d happen again.

Those were hard times.

I had to have compassion for what I didn’t know:

My anxiety thought it was protecting me from things that were bad and dangerous, but it had been protecting me in all the wrong ways.

It wasn’t my fault, but I had to deal with the aftermath.

Compassion for myself carried me through those times.

And now I know: That’s just what anxiety does. It’s who anxiety is. I’m so thankful it doesn’t pull me in anymore.

I hope that for you too. It is possible. đŸ©·

“You should have known better!”
“It was your fault.”
“Why didn’t you see that coming.”

Anxiety will say this, but here’s how you answer:

“Actually, I did my best.”
“I can’t predict how everything will go.”
“I’ve learned from my experiences and grown. I will do things different next time.”

You don’t need to beat yourself up for the past.

And you certainly don’t need anxiety to make decisions for you. đŸ©·

You’ve been overwhelmed by anxiety for too long.

Some skills to not just cope with, but actually start to change the anxiety in your life would be great!

But where do you even start?

I know. I’ve got you.

I understand how overwhelming anxiety can be AND how it can feel like you’ve already tried everything.

I told my partner the other day

“I’ve been looking at some photos of myself that I thought looked really bad, but when I look at them now I feel like I look really good. I look just fine. I think I might be too hard on myself.”

And he was like, “Uh, YEAH!”

I’ve done so much work to NOT be too hard on myself, but sometimes I still am without realizing it. 😭

It’s easy to get frustrated when I realize I’m still too hard on myself. But growth comes in stages. And it gets deeper.

The truth is — it’s OK to be dealing with something you thought you dealt with already.

Dealing with it again means you’re probably seeing it and dealing with it at a deeper level.

It’s like peeling an onion. Every time, you’re closer to the core.

So don’t feel discouraged. đŸ©·

Making a “mistake” in the past doesn’t mean you can’t be trusted now.

And it definitely doesn’t mean you need anxiety to be in charge and make decisions for you.

You can trust yourself to run your life in the present.

You can learn from the past, forgive what you didn’t know, and use what you know now. đŸ©·

Anxiety and past mistakes don’t need to hold you back.

11/20/2025

Anxiety says you can’t be trusted.

It’s a lying liar.

You CAN make decisions about your life.

You CAN weigh choices and make the choice that’s right for you.

You CAN be trusted. đŸ©·

You’ve got this.

What have you learned from the past?

How are you different now?

Check out episode 4 of “It’s Not You, It’s Anxiety” this week to learn how anxiety tries to blame you for the past and how to get free.
