The Black Cultural Initiative is hosting "Black History is Now: A Community Storytelling Event" on Saturday, February 28th from 4:00–7:00pm at The People’s Collective in Eugene. This free gathering will include youth art activities, open community conversation, and a shared meal honoring African heritage.

The Black Cultural Initiative is Lane County’s first Black-led community center and cultural hub. It was created by and for the Black community.

Lou is an international speaker who shared stories from his experiences growing up in the Democratic Republic of Congo to build powerful messages on gratitude, leadership, and team resilience. We enjoyed learning from his expertise and passion.

In honor of Black History Month, check out the app "Strides for Social Justice" which highlights important Black history milestones in Lane County through local walking tours. It was created through a partnership between PeaceHealth and Eugene Marathon in collaboration with Eugene/Springfield NAACP. It's described as "a free, inclusive family-friendly program that will engage and educate participants on the contributions, achievements, and milestones of Black residents of Lane County, and also highlight the injustices many have faced." The link below also lists the Lane County Diverse Business Directory so you can support Black-owned businesses.

The White Bird Dental Clinic received a surprise award from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) for their impactful 10+ year partnership with the OHSU School of Dentistry. Through this partnership, OHSU dental students gain hands-on, real-world experience while working alongside White Bird's experienced clinicians in a supportive learning environment. This mentorship plays an important role in both dental education and community care.

We offer emergency, preventative, and restorative dental care to individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, low-income, or unhoused. Our services include fillings, crowns, endodontics, extractions, prophylaxis, fluoride and sealant applications, and oral health education. We accept OHP, Trillium, Pacific Source, and private dental insurance.

Thank you to Lane Education Service District and Casey Reid for starting such a needed program! Since the beginning of this school year, White Bird Clinic's HOOTS program has been involved specifically with BHP (Behavioral Health Pathways) to work with students at rural high schools (Creswell, Siuslaw, and Mapleton) through de-escalation training and hands-on job experience. Last semester, HOOTS discussed with the BHP students what they thought was the biggest struggle for their peers and how they could help support each other through these struggles. This term, BHP students are working to implement their ideas — completely student led with HOOTS there to provide guidance. These programs are crucial to help students learn how to support one another through emotional and mental needs.

White Bird Clinic's NEST (Navigation Empowerment Services Team) program provides many valuable services and resources:
- Case management
- Information and referrals
- Front door assessments (screening for available housing support services)
- OHP enrollment and renewal assistance
- Eye exam program and more

The NEST case managers served 318 unique individuals in December 2025 alone! Watch to learn how the NEST case management intake process works.

The NEST office is located at 323 E 12th Ave, Eugene, OR 97401. Case management services are open Monday through Friday 9:30am - 12:00pm and 1:00pm - 4:00pm.
