February is "Heart Health" month! We asked River Road Primary Care's Dr. Chapinski what is her go to tip for heart health.
Dr. Chapinski's tip:
"Manage Your Stress"

Managing your stress doesn’t just make you feel better—it literally protects your heart! Here’s how finding your "calm" helps:
♥ Lowers Blood Pressure: Deep breathing and meditation help reset your nervous system, reducing the strain on your arteries.
♥ Reduces Inflammation: Chronic stress triggers persistent low-grade inflammation, a major risk factor for heart attacks. Managing stress helps keep this in check.
♥ Improves Heart Rhythm: Relaxation techniques can help prevent disruptions to your heart's natural beat.
♥ Better Habits: When we aren't stressed, we’re less likely to reach for "comfort" habits like smoking, junk food, or extra alcohol that hurt our hearts.

February is "Heart Health" month! We asked River Road Primary Care's Dr. Pamintuan what is his go to tip for heart health.
Dr. Pamintuan's tip:
"Eat vegetables and exercise"
Show your heart some love! ❤️ Small, daily habits can make a huge impact on your long-term heart health. Here is why prioritizing vegetables and exercise is a total game-changer:

Eat the Rainbow 🥗: Filling your plate with colorful vegetables provides essential fiber, potassium, and antioxidants. These nutrients help lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation, and manage cholesterol levels.

Get Moving 🏃‍♂️: Regular physical activity strengthens your heart muscle, making it more efficient at pumping blood. The American Heart Association recommends aiming for 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week. Whether it’s a brisk walk, a swim, or a dance session in your living room, moving your body helps control weight and reduces the risk of heart disease.

Today is National Wear Red Day to bring awareness of heart disease in women. Our team is wearing red to support the Go Red for Women movement and to shed light on a critical reality: cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women, claiming more lives each year than all forms of cancer combined.
♥ Why Awareness Matters in 2026
➡The Silent Threat: Nearly 45% of women over the age of 20 are currently living with some form of cardiovascular disease.
➡A "Man’s Disease" Myth: Historically, heart disease was viewed as an "old man's disease," but it causes 1 in 3 deaths among women.
➡Different Symptoms: Women often experience non-traditional symptoms during a heart attack—such as nausea, jaw or back pain, and extreme fatigue—which can lead to dangerous delays in seeking help.
Take Action!
Know Your Numbers: Don't forget to schedule your annual physical with your River Road Primary Care provider who will go over your risk of cardiovascular disease.

February is Heart Health Month! ❤️ Our Registered Dietitian, Jenny , is often asked what to eat to for a healthier heart this year (and forever, really). Jenny's answer: Eat more FIBER!

Fiber helps grab extra cholesterol in your gut and move it out of your body before it gets absorbed.

Try adding more of these 5 foods to your diet:
➡ Lentils
➡ Berries
➡ Chia Seeds
➡ Leafy Greens
➡ Avocado
