🚨Endometriosis patients are being failed by outdated healthcare policy🚨
A national coalition is urging Congress to fix a major issue in federal healthcare reimbursement that is limiting access to proper treatment for endometriosis.
And I’m going, and taking my DAUGHTER with me to lobby for change💪🏼❤️✨
Right now, the U.S. healthcare system treats two very different surgeries as if they are the same:
👩⚕️Ablation – a superficial procedure that often takes under 1 hour
👩⚕️Excision surgery – the gold standard treatment that can take 6–10 hours and requires advanced surgical training
Despite the huge differences in complexity and outcomes, both procedures are coded and reimbursed the same under current CMS policy.
This outdated coding system leads to:
❗ Delayed access to expert surgeons
❗ Inadequate treatments and repeat surgeries
❗ Higher long-term healthcare costs
❗ Worse outcomes for millions of patients
The facts:
• Endometriosis affects more than 1 in 10 women
• It takes 7–10 years on average to diagnose
• The disease costs the U.S. $69.4 billion annually
• Excision surgery leads to better outcomes, fewer repeat surgeries, and long-term cost savings
Advocates are calling for policy changes that would:
✔ Create separate surgical codes for excision vs. ablation
✔ Adjust reimbursement based on surgical complexity and expertise
✔ Expand coverage for imaging, pelvic physical therapy, pain care, and long-term management
Updating these policies would improve care, reduce long-term costs, and finally align endometriosis treatment with modern medical science. Let’s make our voices heard!! 📣
