As you probably know, the vote on the Senate version of the bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act has been put on hold. After the vote was postponed, Sen. Rob Portman issued a statement about his opposition to the current version.

Many of you have done great work by telling the stories of people we serve, calling his offices and visiting his staff in person. Thank you for all your work! That pressure seemed to have an impact, for now, but the Senate will likely try to move this bill forward again after they return from holiday recess on July 10.

In addition to encouraging people to call and share how these Medicaid cuts and caps would impact their lives, we, along with the other county boards of DD, advocates, and provider agencies have been voicing our concerns to Sen. Portman on social media. We plan to resume this after July 4.

Call your Senators today (June 21) to tell them that cuts and caps to Medicaid harm people with disabilities, and that they must vote NO on the American Health Care Act (AHCA). The Senate is scheduled to vote the week of June 26th on the AHCA without allowing constituents to see what is in it but reliable sources have told us the Senate AHCA bill is worse for people with disabilities than the House version. It is widely expected that the bill will include deep cuts and caps to Medicaid which will affect the stability of disability supports and services - and this could become law next week. Call now to let your Senators know this is unacceptable! Here's how:

1) Click here to fill a form that will find your Senator and pull up their phone number for you.

2) Call the number that will show up on the screen.

3) Tell the person answering the phone or leave this message as voicemail: "I am a constituent and I am calling to say the AHCA's deep cuts and caps to Medicaid hurt people with disabilities. Please ask the Senator to vote NO on the AHCA so that your constituents are not harmed." (We have that script on the page with the phone number - when you call you will see it there.)

That's it! It's an easy process but is incredibly important to protecting the future of Medicaid, and the moment to do so is now. Your Senators are getting a lot of pressure from Senate Leadership to support the AHCA- they need to hear from you to remember the importance of Medicaid and VOTE NO!
