Stroke survivors don’t just rebuild their bodies,
they rebuild their lives.
On Wednesday I had the chance to attend Henry Ford’s Stroke Survivorship program and meet Duncan “D-Bo / Sniper” Robinson.
We started talking basketball, and I told him one of my first thoughts after waking up from my 14-hour brain surgery was figuring out how I was going to become the best wheelchair basketball player I could be with this new life.
He asked if I still hoop.
I told him I’m not nearly as rusty as I thought.
We also laughed about how it’s probably a good thing my left side was affected… because I never really had a left in basketball anyway.
What stood out most was how genuine and down to earth he and his fiancée Caroline are. They even took the initiative to come spend time with the group on their own, simply to connect with and encourage stroke survivors, while also raising awareness for the stroke survivor community and mental health beyond their own work.
Grateful to the Henry Ford Stroke Team for the invitation and for continuing to create spaces that bring survivors together.
This is how we eLeVate lives. 💪
