Ky Carnell-Russell, MA has a Master's degree in Kinesiology and is a certified pilates instructor and pilates teacher trainer with advanced training and experience in pilates-based Movement Medicine. Ky teaches stress management courses at San Jose State University and offers Pilates training for individuals and groups in downtown Santa Cruz. She is also a Balanced Body faculty member, teaching Pilates instructor training courses, anatomy classes, and prenatal pilates specialists training courses in Santa Cruz, nationally, and internationally. Ky delights in sharing the joy of Pilates and movement with her students and thoughtfully blends lightheartedness and humor with the serious business of creating healthy, functional, happy bodies.

Pilates teachers - just wanted to be clear, Pilates is political.

Don't be afraid to "bring politics into your work."

You're not bringing politics, it's already there.

Your clients are not meat sacks existing in a void, they're humans who are impacted by the political, social, and cultural systems we all exist in.

This impacts their goals, their body image, their stress levels, their beliefs about exercise in general - it's ALL connected!

If you're not clear about this, you're missing out on the deepest layers of the work.

I know I'm not doing and saying it all perfectly, but didn't want to hide my beliefs and values behind perfectionism.

I love you, keep going.

I'm officially the mother of a teen!

We celebrated by ziplining through the redwoods. Here's me being a bit dramatic for the camera, I promise I didn't pass out. 🤷

At one point we were 150' high - scary but certainly not as scary as the upcoming teen years! 😱

Just kidding! I'm not stressing about life with a teen, I fall more in love with my amazing kiddo each day. 💖

The only scary thing is how quickly she's growing up.

Sigh.

Congratulations to the fabulous on their Reformer certification!

I am honored to get to be a part of Kat's Pilates teacher journey!

Kat already has a busy teaching schedule - you definitely want to catch one of their joyful classes!

And Kat is also the Pilates instructor to a special VIP (for me at least). My own tween child!

Their patience, care, humor, knowledge and skill makes Kat a wonderful teacher for students of all ages!

Loving the slow pace of this time between Christmas and New Year's.

My nervous system is happy, and is letting go of so much stress.

And my body is ready for some Pilates! If your body is wanting some Pilates - come join me!

I'm teaching this week and then heading out to Mexico for my retreat so make sure to come join me if you can.

Open classes on Monday December 30th. Thursday January 2nd is waitlisted- but the waitlist works so hop on it.
