Tonight matters.

We’re coming together to remember Rusty. Not just how he passed, but how he lived. Loud. Real. Fully himself. He didn’t fake it. He showed up, did the work, and reminded all of us that recovery isn’t just about staying clean. It’s about living with purpose.

If you knew him, you felt it. If you didn’t, you’ll still feel the impact tonight.

People think overdose is one bad decision.

It’s not.
It’s tolerance dropping.
It’s using alone.
It’s a nervous system pushed too far.
It’s silence. Shame. “I got this.”

We focus on the moment.
We ignore the build up.

Overdose is not just about what someone takes.
It’s about what they are carrying alone.
Connection changes outcomes.
Isolation raises risk.

So ask a better question.
Not “why did they use that much?”

Ask
where were they before it got there?
Drop a 💙 if this hit.

Tag someone who needs this.

Syreeta Drake, also known as Syreeta Nelson, is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, author, and internationally recognized spoken word performer who brings truth, healing, and real-life experience to every stage she steps on.

After overcoming a lifetime of trauma rooted in her parents’ addictions, Syreeta made a decision to turn that pain into purpose. Not just for herself, but for others. Her voice is raw, honest, and impossible to ignore. Whether she’s speaking, writing, or performing, she creates moments that hit deep and stay with you.

With over 20 years in nursing, Syreeta takes a trauma-informed, person-centered approach that focuses on the whole person. Mind, body, and spirit. She serves as a full-time instructor at Montcalm Community College, where she teaches future nurses that skill can be taught, but compassion has to be lived.

She is the founder of Cerebral Connections, providing mental health education, therapy, support groups, and medication management. She is also the author of The Crack Chronicles: Dissection of a Demon, and continues to use her writing and spoken word to bring healing through art.

When she’s not on stage or in the classroom, you’ll find her jumping rope or enjoying a good cup of tea.

Syreeta doesn’t just talk about recovery and healing. She embodies it.

Join us Friday, May 1st at Outreach 419 for a Sober Not Boring Speaker Meeting with Syreeta Drake. This is one you don’t want to miss.

"That man is you."

Imagine the absolute outrage King David felt when he heard the story of a rich man stealing a poor man’s only beloved lamb. He was ready to bring down the hammer of justice—until the Prophet Nathan looked him in the eye and revealed the truth: the villain in the story was David himself.

David had stolen another man’s wife and then forced that loyal soldier to carry his own death sentence to the front lines. He spent months hiding behind a polished, royal exterior while his soul was rotting under the weight of an unconfessed life.

We all do it. We point the finger at everyone else’s "messes" to distract from the secrets we’ve got tucked in our own back pockets. But Step 5 is about that gut-punch moment of honesty. It’s about stopping the performance, dropping the finger-pointing, and finally admitting, "That man is me."
Real restoration doesn't start until the cover-up ends.

Are you ready to stop judging the "rich man" in the story and finally get honest about the man in the mirror?

Watch the full Step 5 deep dive on YouTube https://youtu.be/MlcWjCLTNQI or catch the audio version on the Sober Not Boring app. Download it now on Google Play or the Apple App Store, or visit www.sobernotboring.app to find the community and resources you need to live life wide open.

A cluttered space makes for a cluttered mind. 🌎

This Earth Day, the world is talking about "Our Power, Our Planet." At Outreach 419, we believe your power starts with your environment. Just like the earth needs us to clear away the trash to thrive, our recovery needs a "clean" space to stay strong.

Whether it’s clearing out old triggers from your house or just spending 20 minutes breathing in the fresh air at a local park, taking care of your surroundings is an act of self-care. Healing happens not just within you, but around you.

Doing some "spring cleaning" for your mental health today? Tell us one thing you’re clearing out to make room for hope!

Most people think addiction only affects the person using.

But if you’ve lived it, you know it goes way beyond that.

It changes how people communicate.
It breaks trust.
It creates distance where there used to be connection.

And a lot of the people getting hurt are the ones trying to help.

This is why recovery is bigger than just stopping the substance.

It’s about rebuilding trust.
With time.
With consistency.
With real effort.

On both sides.

If you’ve been through this, either in your own life or with someone you love, you’re not alone.

What helped rebuild trust for you
or what are you still working through?

Drop it in the comments.
You never know who needs to hear your experience.

Something big is happening in Alto, and we’re ready to let the secret out.

Outreach 419 is officially partnering with Elmdale Church of the Nazarene to bring a brand-new recovery hub to the community! This isn't just about opening a building; it’s about creating a safe, real, and "sober not boring" space for anyone finding their way through recovery.

Starting with our Grand Opening on Saturday, June 6, this location will serve as a dedicated Drop-In Center and Meeting Hub.

The Weekly Schedule:

Drop-In Hours: Monday, Thursday, and Saturday | 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Recovery Coaching: Available by appointment outside of regular hours.

Our Grand Opening is going to be a blast. We’re talking yard games, kids' games, music, and a Euchre tournament. But it’s not all just fun and games—you’ll hear real stories from current participants at our Fenwick location, and founders Robert and Heidi will be there to share the vision and answer your questions face-to-face.

Whether you’ve been sober for a decade or you’re just thinking about making a change, there is a seat at the table for you here. All pathways are welcome. No judgment, just connection and accountability.

Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean? ☕

Let me ask you something. When life gets boiling hot—when the stress hits, the money is tight, or relationships get hard—how do you react?

Boiling water makes a carrot soft and weak.
Boiling water makes an egg hard and bitter.
But a coffee bean? It actually changes the water.

In recovery, we can't control the boiling water around us. Life is going to happen. But we don't have to let the environment break us, and we don't have to let it make us bitter and resentful. We can be the change agent.

It starts with how you talk to yourself.

Come learn how to stop being a victim of your circumstances and start taking control of your life.
