Everyone is talking about GLP-1 medications right now: Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and others.
And I want to be very clear about something: I don’t use GLP-1s as a first step.
For many women in their 30s, 40s, and 50s, weight gain is usually a symptom of something deeper, not the root problem.
Many of the women I work with come to me saying they are eating well, exercising, and doing all the “right things,” yet the weight keeps creeping up.
What’s often happening underneath the surface is something like:
🔸 Hormonal shifts during perimenopause
🔸 Cortisol and stress disrupting metabolism
🔸 Blood sugar dysregulation
🔸 Gut microbiome imbalances
🔸 Poor sleep affecting hunger hormones
When these systems are out of sync, the body starts storing energy differently, especially around the belly.
So instead of jumping straight to medication, my first step is helping women address the root causes: hormones, metabolism, gut health, and lifestyle.
Now, that doesn’t mean GLP-1s are always the wrong choice!
When used strategically and appropriately, they can be a helpful adjunct tool for some women, especially after labs, evaluation, and foundational health changes.
But the key is using them the right way and at the right time, not as the first line of treatment.
Your body deserves a deeper approach than simply suppressing appetite.
