🚑 EMS DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know the cardiac monitor is one of the most used pieces of equipment on an ambulance?

It doesn’t just check heart rhythms. Modern monitors can also track:
• Blood pressure
• Oxygen levels
• Carbon dioxide (capnography)
• And detect life-threatening heart attacks early

The cardiac monitor helps EMS providers make critical decisions before the patient even reaches the hospital.

Early detection = faster treatment = better outcomes.

🚑 Before There Were Ambulances

In the 1800s, there was no 911.
No paramedics.
No oxygen.
No cardiac monitor.

In cities like New York City, injured people were transported in police wagons, sometimes called “paddy wagons.” No medical care. Just a ride.

The first organized civilian ambulance service started during the American Civil War.

Modern EMS is younger than most people think.
Paramedics didn’t even officially exist in many states until the 1970s.

🚑 Every time we respond, we’re part of a system that’s barely 50 years old.
