Recently, the Three Rivers District Health Department was granted permission to operate a syringe service program (SSP) in Carroll County. Three Rivers District SSPs are referred to as Harm Reduction Syringe Exchanges (HRSE). So, as of November 21, 2025, the Commonwealth of Kentucky has 82 operational SSPs. Over the last six months the Target4 Project has assisted in launching hepatitis C telehealth in Bracken and Pendleton Counties. Research shows that justice involved individuals are at a 40% greater risk of overdose within the first two weeks of re-entering their communities. However, the use of medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) has been shown to reduce opioid overdose deaths by up to 75% when introduced during and after incarceration. On Monday we posted about HIV in pregnancy and breastfeeding. That video indicated that the recommendation in the United States is to avoid breastfeeding and us only formula. However, those recommendations changed in 2023 and today's video talks about how by working with your doctor and taking your medication, the risk of HIV transmission through breastfeeding can be reduced to less than 1%.
