What a week...

Monday, I shared the news about being named one of the Influential Women in Business 2025.

Thursday, I posted about volunteering at Feed Florida during the shutdown.

Today, the government is reopened and families are exhaling.

And here’s what I'm sitting with:

When systems break down, people step up.

Not for praise. Not for credit.
Just because it’s needed.

→ Volunteers preparing and sorting food before sunrise
→ Families making impossible care decisions
→ Professionals showing up beyond their job title
→ Communities refusing to let anyone fall through the cracks

That’s the real story of this week.

Awards are meaningful.
But the real honor is being useful when it matters.

And yes, the reopening doesn’t erase the bills families took on, or the stress caregivers absorbed. Those cracks are still there. The work continues.

Your turn:

What’s one way you can be useful today or this weekend not for recognition, but because someone needs it?

→ Check on a colleague
→ Volunteer an hour
→ Share your expertise
→ Show up when most people look away

👇 How are you going to show up?

The government has reopened. But the need hasn’t ended.

Families still face overdue bills. Caregivers are still stretched thin. Food banks are still recovering from surge demand.

The headlines may have moved on, but the ripple effects remain.

If you felt called to act during the shutdown, don’t stop now.

🫶 Donate.
🫶 Volunteer.
🫶 Stay engaged.

Recovery takes longer than crisis. Let’s keep showing up.

Last week, I spent my morning at Feed Florida Food Bank.

Not because it was scheduled.

Because it’s needed.

The government shutdown continues. Food programs are frozen.

Caregivers and other families are choosing between groceries and meds.

I stood beside volunteers in the kitchen quietly peeling, chopping, and felt it:

This is what service looks like.

As coaches and consultants, our responsibility goes beyond clients.

It’s about showing up for those who have the same basic human needs as those systems were designed to serve.

Food. Dignity. Safety. Hope.

Here’s my challenge to you:

→ Donate to your local food bank

→ Volunteer 2–3 hours this weekend

→ Partner with organizations doing the work

Empathy without action changes nothing.

If you’ve felt the weight of this moment, this is how to help.

Lock arms in your city or state with groups like Feed Florida who are already doing the work.

Show up. "Be the difference that you wish to see in the world."

👉 Drop a comment: What organization are you supporting?

Together, we become the hands and feet of hope.

For 30+ years, I've walked alongside family caregivers through the hardest decisions of their lives.

This recognition reminds me why I do this work:

✓ Because no family should navigate complex care alone
✓ Because clarity IS possible - even in overwhelming moments
✓ Because you deserve expert support, not just sympathy

Thank you for amplifying this mission. 💙

And to every caregiver reading this: You don't have to figure this out alone. That's exactly what I'm here for.

The FEDERAL SHUTDOWN isn't a budget crisis. It's "wage theft" "with a PR team."

It's National Caregivers Month, and 730,000 federal employees are working WITHOUT a paycheck while 670,000 are furloughed (CNN). We're supposed to applaud their "dedication" (NPR)?

Meanwhile, working people are standing in food bank lines after two-hour waits, draining their 401(k)s through hardship withdrawals (NPR), and choosing between paying the mortgage, or daycare.

All while caring for aging parents, managing chronic illnesses in their families, and keeping households running, knowing that 61% of working caregivers make significant work sacrifices just to provide care.

Congress members? Still getting paid. It's constitutionally protected. (NPR)

The White House is even questioning whether furloughed workers should get back pay at all (CNN), despite a 2019 law guaranteeing it.

The reality? Family caregivers lose an average of $304,000 in wages, retirement, and Social Security benefits over their lifetime. Now add "unpaid federal work" to that bill.

This isn't sacrifice. This is "exploitation dressed up" as "patriotism."

So, here's my question for National Caregivers Month:

If we truly valued caregivers, would we force them to work without pay while they're already drowning in responsibilities, then call it patriotism when they can't afford to quit?

🔥 Change my mind.

My mother fell three times in two weeks. The doctor said, "She's just getting older."

I'm a nurse with 40+ years of experience.

And I almost missed it too.

Because here's what no one tells you: the crisis doesn't announce itself. It whispers first.

Three small stumbles.

A few missed pills.

More naps than usual.

Everyone made excuses for it. Until the fourth fall landed her in the ER with multiple bruises and needing stitches.

That's when I learned:

"Just getting older" is the phrase that costs families thousands in preventable ER visits and crisis-mode decisions.

The families who act on early signs? They avoid the 2 AM hospital calls.

The families who wait? They're Googling "emergency respite care" at midnight, exhausted and terrified.

I built my entire practice around this truth: The right intervention at the right time is worth 10 crisis responses.

💬 What's the "just getting older" excuse you've been telling yourself about your loved one? (Or that a doctor told you to ignore?)

Drop it below. I read every one and I'll tell you if it needs attention now.

No more "wait and see." Just clarity, confidence, and a roadmap forward.

God’s timing is perfect, and His care is constant.

Rest isn’t weakness, it’s obedience. It’s faith in His provision, and trust in His grace.

When caregivers pause from their labor, restoration begins, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Clarity often comes not from striving, but from surrender.

Today, take a moment to pause, reflect, and refill your peace.

Caregivers face hundreds of micro-decisions every day.

📍 What’s safe?
📍 Who to call?
📍 Which option is best?

It’s the constant decision fatigue, not the tasks that drains you most.

A clear plan answers those questions before the crisis hits.

You’re not surviving caregiving, you’re leading it.

But even leaders hit walls. Not because you lack drive, but because the system you’re operating in was built for reaction, not strategy.

Good families survive caregiving.

Exceptional families elevate it, protecting wealth, preserving harmony, and moving from chaos to clarity.

“Running on fumes” isn’t just a phrase, it’s your daily reality.

When you’re the one holding everything together, there’s no backup plan if you collapse. And yet, most caregivers are left to “Google it” and hope for the best.

You’re not failing. You’re carrying an impossible load without the right support.

You deserve clarity in this chaos.
