Butterflies have been a symbol of long life, transformation or change, love and joy, and many associate the butterfly with the soul. It is said if one lands on you, it symbolizes good luck, but one very interesting belief is that butterflies show the beauty of nature; the beauty of symmetry, pattern, color, shape, frailty yet resilience. The late fall Monarch butterflies seem to have a natural cue that tells them to migrate from Wisconsin to Northern Mexico for the winter, and they do by the millions. Nature is the basis of our world. We watch in awe at the ability of nature to cleanse itself, renew itself and sustain us, and seem to think no matter what we do, it will be okay, nature will survive. But as we change nature, destroy plants, land, mountain tops and forests, we are destroying the natural ability of nature to cleanse, renew, and sustain. How will the butterflies know what to do?
