The Maxillofacial Restoration Program team at Naval Medical Center San Diego restored a Fort Carson Soldier's jaw and medical readiness through a complex jaw-in-a-day surgery after a benign tumor destroyed nearly two-thirds of his mandible. Check out this incredible story of how the military health system is committed to improving health and building readiness and ensuring warfighters receive the care they need, when they need it.

The Maxillofacial Restoration Program team at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) restored a Soldier’s readiness through a single-day surgery known as “jaw-in-a-day.”

After collaborating with an Army provider from Evans Army Community Hospital and virtually planning the surgery, the team at NMCSD rebuilt the Soldier’s lower jaw and provided immediate dental rehabilitation—compressing a two-year process into a single, one-day operation.

Watch the story of how the San Diego team, led by Cmdr. Daniel Hammer, is delivered high-reliability, mission-focused care that keeps warfighters in the fight.
