Traveling is a wonder, a joy, a tiresome ordeal, a lovely encounter, and oh so worth it. AND YET -- a GOOD bed with white sheets and an Air conditioner can feel like HEAVEN after a good long exploratory jaunt, especially in August. π
Lately, I've been doing my healing sessions in Rabat, Morocco for some quiet and calm. This part of Morocco is LUSH and GREEN, and the King lives nearby, in a large palace surrounded by gardens and forest. What a relief. π
My social life has consisted of:
1) Watching large Pelican-like birds hanging out in the trees by the Mosque. πΉ
2) Engaging with the locals, many of whom are a complete joy! π€
And lately, it's just me and the Mosque grocery store men. Of all kinds. Young, old, English speaking, or only Arabic/French speaking. And LOTS and LOTS of kitties. Lazing around, or swatting each other and then running. The Mosque men feed them daily, and there is a place loaded with food and water bowls. π
A couple of the younger men speak some English, that they learned from the movies. They are very intelligent, and VERY familiar with Hollywood. π
Some are the men are very sweet. One man in particular, he is a small older man with a dash of dark hair and a little black mustache. He wears suspenders, and has one missing tooth. I buy eggs from him, 60 cents for a half dozen. And his eyes sparkle with joy when I thank him in Arabic: "Chokran Bezaf" (Thank you so much). He thumps his heart with his right hand, and bows slightly: "Inshallah" (God willing). And I feel joy. πππΆ
One day I bought paper towels from him, and realized when I got home that an ENTIRE COLONY of small RED Ants had taken up residence inside these 2 rolls of paper towels. They were swarming all over. I was mortified.
But, because he is who he is, I did not return them. Apparently the towels had been stored there for years. It didn't take long to relocate the ants outside in the yard. No big deal. π
When I think of these folks, I feel grateful. and optimistic about life on this planet. Because of the graciousness and the warmth. Not everyone in Morocco is like this, but I have encountered MANY who are. And many other folks around the world as well. It helps to place your hand on your heart when you first meet someone new, even if you don't speak their language. They know what you mean.
Inshallah
