Did you know all of the benefits of DHA & EPA from preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum....because I didn't!

'Omega-3 fatty acids are essential to health throughout our entire lifespan, much like certain vitamins and minerals. "Omega-3s are a specific type of fat that our body needs but cannot make," says Melinda Johnson, RD, a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association.
During pregnancy through breastfeeding, our need for omega-3s increases even more, as they provide crucial support to the development of baby’s brain, nervous system, and eyes. They are also key when it comes to helping prevent preterm labor, supporting a healthy birth weight, and might be beneficial for postpartum mood in mothers.....While it’s clear that DHA is essential to your baby’s well-being, studies show that women who eat enough fish during pregnancy or supplement with an omega-3 fish oil product can also benefit after giving birth. DHA is known to play a role in the production and transport of the vital mood enhancing hormones dopamine and serotonin.
Therefore, if a mother has an adequate amount in her system, it may help her avoid postpartum depression, which typically occurs in 10-25% of women and is commonly associated with an omega-3 deficiency.
A recent Norwegian study found a direct correlation between higher DHA blood levels during pregnancy and fewer symptoms of postpartum depression. Specifically, women reported experiencing more symptoms of postpartum depression when their pregnancy blood DHA level was below the 5% mark.'

This year has been tough (on everyone) to say the least. At times I have caught myself being frustrated, ungrateful, pessimistic, and focusing more on what I DON’T have or CAN’T do, rather than the things I can do and things that I do have like: family, food, shelter, friends, transportation, clothes, and so much more!

Today I am grateful for it all, good and bad, because it has pushed me to get uncomfortable and have to do some self examination to find, within myself, things I can do to turn my attitude around and have an attitude of gratitude regardless of what is happening.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving Day.

Hello and welcome do my Doula page 😊
My name is Laynee Blair and I am a full spectrum doula and placenta encapsulator, serving the Pikes Peak region (Colorado Springs/Woodland Park).

For those of you who are unfamiliar with what a doula is- the word “doula” comes from the Ancient Greek, meaning “a woman who serves”. Today, “doula” refers to a person who is professionally trained to provide emotional, physical, and informational support to women throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period.

In the info graphic below shows some evidence on the positive effects from having continuous labor support from a doula!
