If you’ve ever asked yourself, “How often should I be getting bodywork?” — you’re not alone. The answer isn’t one-size-fits-all, especially when we’re talking about deep tissue and trigger point therapy.
When muscles have been holding tension for weeks, months, or even years, they don’t fully release in a single session. What we’re working with are patterns in the nervous system and soft tissue — adhesions (knots), restricted fascia, and trigger points that have become your body’s “normal.”
Here’s how consistent treatment actually helps your body change:
• Muscle fibers reset gradually – Deep tissue and trigger point work help break up adhesions and restore normal length to muscle fibers. But your body needs repetition to hold that change.• Your nervous system learns safety – Tight, guarded muscles are often your body’s protective response. Consistent sessions help your nervous system stop over-firing and allow muscles to stay relaxed longer.• Circulation improves over time – Increased blood flow brings oxygen and nutrients into tissues while removing waste products that contribute to soreness and stiffness.• Fascia becomes more pliable – With repeated work, the connective tissue surrounding muscles becomes less restricted, allowing for better movement and less pain.
That’s why I typically recommend a progression like this:
• Start with once a week until relief lasts a full week• Then transition to every 2 weeks until relief lasts that long• Then every 3 weeks• And finally, maintenance once a month
This approach supports your body in creating lasting change, instead of constantly starting over from square one.
✨ Let’s also talk about session length — because it matters more than most people think.
While 60-minute sessions can be helpful, 90–120 minutes allows for significantly deeper, more effective work:
• The body has time to fully warm up, making deeper layers easier (and more comfortable) to access• We can address multiple areas without rushing, which is important because pain patterns are often connected• Your nervous system has time to shift into a relaxed state, which is when true release happens• Results tend to last longer because the work is more thorough and integrated
Think of it this way: a 60-minute session can put out fires, but a 90–120 minute session lets us actually address the root cause.
Consistency + adequate time = longer-lasting relief, better mobility, and a body that doesn’t feel like it’s constantly fighting itself.
If you’re ready to get out of the cycle of temporary relief and start creating real, lasting change, I’d love to work with you ♥️
