This!!! I had a friend years ago say to me “Nina, you’re already a midwife, you just need to learn the skills.”

Midwifery isn’t simply about a skill set. It’s about being fully present with a woman as she brings new life into this world. It’s about walking up to that threshold where the veil is thin, and being her support as she journeys through to the other side…death to herself that brings new life!

Lord, my life is yours. My dreams, hopes, and ambitions I surrender at your feet. Prepare me to learn well. Prepare me to walk with everyone you bring across my path in this apprenticeship. Your way is better.

Announcement:

I’ve been very quiet about this…after almost 3 years I have decided to finish my training as a midwife. Last night I attended the most beautiful birth. It was my 3rd birth back as a student.

I have wanted to be a midwife since I was 21 years old. I didn’t really know all that would entail, all that it would ask of me. I didn’t know the highs and lows. The beautiful births that would send me home with complete awe of Gods design, and the births that would make every part of my brain work while inwardly praying through each moment.

I didn’t know the interpersonal dynamics that would make me want to quit. I thought it would be the weird hours and lack of sleep, but there is so much spiritual warfare in birthwork, I would liken it to the same level as the mission field.

Midwives stand in this sacred valley with the women who decide to trust us to be “with woman.” We lay ourselves down at the threshold and we show up to journey through laborland with these families.

So friends, pray for me as I finish my training to become a midwife. Pray for the midwives you know…they need your prayers more than you know. Birth is holy and hard work; as is the role of the midwife.

Walking through the doors the Lord has opened for me. has agreed to take me on as a student. So, if you’ve been itching to have me as your midwife, come see us 🩷

Sometimes your birth plan changes. Your support team and provider matter so much. Praising the Lord for an amazing team that wrapped around my client. Amazing nurses and midwives. When everything was trending towards the need for a c-section the nurses and midwives worked tirelessly to help this mama achieve a beautiful vaginal birth..
Also, mama was so well loved by her amazing husband. He truly served her and loved her so well through all the changes that were thrown at them both. So proud of this amazing couple. Mama worked so hard and overcame so many obstacles. She fought hard for this baby girl ❤️

Labor and birth is such an exciting time! Knowing that you are going to be looking into the face of the sweet baby you have been growing inside of you!
A surge of excitement and adrenaline pump through your body….

Your body is getting ready to do some very hard work. I always recommend that mom tries to get rest. We even talk through the excitement on the phone as labor starts.

Eat, rest, hydrate, set your mind on what is ahead, pray and wait. Your body is well made. God designed your body to birth your baby.

Some questions I get asked by first time moms:

Do you think I could sleep through my labor?

How will I know when it’s time to call the midwife?

How do you time contractions?

How will I know the difference between Braxton Hicks and Regular Contractions?

There are no stupid questions. The more in tune with your body and educated you are, the more easily you will recognize what is happening in early labor and transition into active labor.

It’s beautiful to watch women reclaim birth and become in tune with their baby, their body, and their creator.

Being invited into someone’s birth space is so sacred. The veil is thin. Holding space for women as they move, sway, breathe, moan, and rock their baby earthside.

Watching a woman set her intent on having a beautiful peaceful homebirth and then being there as it unfolds to be everything that she hoped, prayed, and planned for is beyond words.

I’m so thankful that I get to be present to witness and support such sacred moments in peoples lives. The past few weeks I have been witness to some incredible births ❤️

Not to mention the amazing midwives that are “with” these women on their journey through pregnancy, labor, and delivery.

Also, watching supportive strong husbands hold their wives as they works so hard to birth their babes, watching their power become a safe place for their wife is incredible.

Pretty sure I have the best job on the planet ❤️
