Chapter 2: The Joy and Pain of Motherhood

Today is a day of celebration for many. For others it may come bittersweet. One thing is for sure, there will be a range of emotions centered around the meaning of this day and the power struggles that come with it.

Excerpt from "The Joy and Pain of Motherhood".

"There is always a sense of tension with the unknown but tempered with excitement for this new baby that will change their lives forever. New grandparents are already advising on what to do and what not to do. New fathers practice their protective nature over their wives or mothers of their babies. The beginning of a new life together, the joy unimagined, full of hope for what the future holds. But there is also the anxiety that goes along with feeling overwhelmed with the experience and the fear of the unknown. Will this be too much for me to handle? How will I know what to do? Will I have the help that I need? This baby needs my full-time attention! How soon will I be able to get back to work? My job needs me, too! All new mothers go through some level of anxiousness. The ones who don’t are just good at keeping their cool."
