Helping Casey Casilhas

Helping Casey Casilhas For any questions, please feel free to email either one of these addresses. bcasilhas@yahoo.com or b Casey is my 15 year old niece. Tennis is her love.

She is a sophomore at Belton High School and is on the varsity tennis team. During the Thanksgiving break Casey was experiencing some intense headaches & vomiting. On the Sunday after Thanksgiving she started experiencing double vision & her mom took her to the ER. It was at that time a tumor was found in her brain. S&W referred her to Cooks Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth for surgery. Our first visit to CCMC was December 9th with the neuro surgeon. We were told then that she would need surgery to remove the tumor. Surgery was scheduled for December 12th. Casey was in surgery for about 6 hours. The doctor came out & said it was more difficult than initially thought but he was satisfied that he was able to remove all of the tumor. In the early morning hours of December 13th we received a call that they were taking Casey back to surgery as her brain was swelling & they needed to relieve the pressure. That surgery was successful, however there was some damaged brain tissue that had to be removed & the brain stem had been damaged. Casey was taken out of ICU on January 3rd and taken to the rehab floor. The doctors first told us she was going to be paralyzed from the neck down, however, she has proven them wrong & is able to move her toes & fingers on her right side. That is how she communicates with us. She continues to progress each day. We have a long road to recovery but each day is one day closer. She will be transferred to a facility in Austin as soon as she is medically stable. So that is Casey's story. We want to thank everyone for their continued prayers & support. This page was created to inform family and friends of Casey Casilhas's progress and status. We will also be informing everyone of fundraisers we will be having to raise money for her medical expenses. As we all know, insurance does not cover everything. We are also taking donations.(Any little bit will help!) If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know. And most importanly, PLEASE PRAY, AND KEEP CASEY AND HER FAMILY IN YOUR THOUGHTS. https://www.wepay.com/donations/helping-casey-casilhas
