Six months. One hundred pounds.

This video is an honest look at what losing 100 pounds in six months has actually been like. We'll look at the good, the unexpected, and the parts people don’t always talk about.

More energy. Better health. Enjoying exercise for the first time in my life.

Also…sore tailbones, being cold all the time, constantly changing clothes, medical adjustments, and some uncomfortable mental shifts along the way.

Weight loss didn’t magically fix everything...but it removed a lot of barriers.

If you’re curious, skeptical, struggling, or somewhere in between, I hope this helps you feel a little less alone.

In this video, we will discuss Non-Scale Victories (NSVs), what they are, and why we should celebrate them.

How I started 2025 and how I’m starting 2026. There is a difference of 92.3 pounds between these pictures, as well as other improvements.

The photo on the left is the earliest one I could find on my phone. It was taken March 2, 2025 at the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. The one on the right is from today.

Back then, I had diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, gout flareups, and a high resting heart rate…and, unknown to me at the time, a malignant tumor in my stomach.

Today, I no longer have diabetes, my blood pressure is great, my cholesterol is good, my resting heart rate is awesome. Best of all, I am cancer-free.

This is by no means the end of my journey. It’s just a marker somewhere in the middle. I still have work to do, but I’m encouraged by the progress so far. It’s more than I ever thought possible.

I’m deeply grateful for the skill and care of my doctors and dietitian, and for the support of my family and friends as I continue on this path. One day at a time.

Face gains. Top left was on September 14, when I recorded my first full-length video journal episode. Bottom left was October 1, the night before my surgery. The right photo is from my recording last night, December 21. I still have more to go to reach my target, but I’m getting there.

Sometimes it is hard to see the progress when very little changes day to day in the mirror. The timeframe of these photos is just 98 days, but it helps to take a step back to see how far you’ve really come.

Beyond the Scale: Progress, Patience, and Trusting the Process

An honest update on weight loss, health wins, and learning to slow down.

At 79 days post-surgery, I am almost 2/3 of the way to my weight-loss goal. Even so, it is hard not to get discouraged when the scale doesn't move as fast as you want. But the key is to focus on the progress so far and the road ahead, and not to get caught up in a single day (or two or three).

Fast progress taught me discipline. Slowing down is teaching me patience.

Thanks for watching. Leave a comment with your own experiences or questions, and happy holidays!

Happy Thanksgiving! It has been eight weeks since I had surgery. In this video, we'll talk about transitioning to an unrestricted diet and starting a gym routine.

Here is my "One Month Post-Op" video. It’s hard to believe it’s already been 30 days since my gastric sleeve surgery! I’ve learned a lot in the last month...not just about food and healing, but about patience and listening to my body.

I’ve lost 62 pounds so far (41 before surgery, 21 since), but the scale hasn’t always been steady. There were days it stalled, and even went up a little; then it dropped again. That’s normal. The important thing is to keep following the plan and trust the process.

I just took my first post-surgery trip, and that came with its own lessons. Traveling after surgery means being careful about things like blood clots, staying hydrated, and learning how to look for food on a restaurant menu that fits with my new diet. And trust me, yes, your body will let you know when you’ve pushed too far. For me, that meant getting the “foamies” (that weird frothy feeling when your stomach says, “enough!”).

I’ve also caught myself forgetting I even had surgery a couple of times and taking one bite too many or sipping while eating. I *feel* normal, and sometimes it happens. You learn, adjust, and move on.

Exercise has also been a big part of this, not just for weight loss, but to keep my body healing and digestion moving. Protein is key. It’s how you make sure the weight you’re losing is the right kind of weight.

If you’re just starting your journey or thinking about it, I hope this helps show what the first 30 days are really like. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.

Thanks to all who have been watching!

Sorry, I really tried to get this uploaded last night, but it took a long time to upload. However, here it is now! As promised, a summary of my day in surgery, the hospital day after, and the recovery so far. I've also included pictures showing me in the hospital right before the procedure, immediately after, the next morning, and at discharge.

First of all, infinite love and thank you to my wife, who stayed with me the whole time. Spending more time with her is one of the reasons I took this step.

A huge thank you to all of the friends and family who called or sent messages while I was in the hospital. Your support means the world to me!

I cannot express enough gratitude to my surgeon, hospital staff, and my dietician. Their skill, care, and compassion are worthy of legend. I credit my recovery progress to their efforts and education.

If you have undergone a bariatric procedure, please feel free to share your experience. If you have any questions, please feel free to post them or send me a message.

Thank you all for your support. I'm eager to continue this transformative journey. Onward!

Hey everyone, I got home Friday evening and am just now wrapping up my second day at home. This is a quick update to check in, and I plan to provide a longer one tomorrow to discuss the procedure and how things are progressing since the operation.
