Happy ! ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒ™โฒ

You did it! Fall back happened and you survived - even if it feels like a VERY long day. Remember to give your little one grace around this adjustment to his / her sleep. It may take a few weeks for this new rhythm to even out and feel smooth again, just as it does for adults. Be patient and consistent as you support them through this transition. If you have questions or would like support to help with the adjustment, NEDS is offering two options!

๐Ÿ’œ Our FREE "Speed Dating with a Sleep Coach" ZOOM is November 19th from 2-3pm. Register below and bring your sleep questions to share with Courtney, our certified sleep consultant.

RSVP: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/speed-dating-with-sleep-coach-courtney-tickets-911331165047?aff=oddtdtcreator

๐Ÿ’œ Reach out to Courtney and start the process of connecting for a full sleep consultation including a unique sleep plan written with your family and little oneโ€™s needs in mind. All sleep plans are supported with texting and follow up calls while you are implementing the changes, so no question is left unanswered!

Here is OPTION #3 of our "Falling Back" Sleep Tip Series - brought to you by our Certified Infant Sleep Professional, Courtney! Our goal with these posts is to give you some easy ways to ease your little one into the time change without much disruption to their regular schedule. Stay tuned for another preparation tip on Friday.
๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒ™โฒ

PREPARATION TIP #3 - 5 Months to 3 Years Old:

๐Ÿ’œ You donโ€™t have to do anything! You can leave all of your rhythms and routines as they normally are and see how your little one does with the time change on Sunday morning. If they wake up earlier than 6am, try to allow them to remain in their sleep space until 6am (if possible) to protect the day from starting too early. Throughout the day on Sunday, watch sleep cues and adjust wake windows as needed. Your little one may need shorter wake windows, an extra cat nap, or an earlier bedtime on Sunday in order to compensate for the extra hour added into their day. Over the following week, their morning wake time may settle slightly earlier than it had been before the time change or return to the normal time. If it remains earlier, that is ok! Just try to encourage wake time to be 6am or later to avoid mornings becoming too early. Some families end up with a summer wake time and winter wake time as a result of the time change.

REMEMBER, if your little one is 4 months old or younger, you can rest easy since their wake windows are still so short and the day very cyclical - their bodies should adjust naturally. Keep your rhythms and routines the same and follow your little oneโ€™s sleep cues and optimal wake windows rather than clock time.

Here is OPTION #2 of our "Falling Back" Sleep Tip Series - brought to you by our Certified Infant Sleep Professional, Courtney! Stay tuned for another preparation tip on Friday.
๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒ™โฒ

PREPARATION TIP #2 - 5 Months to 3 Years Old:

๐Ÿ’œ Rather than cushioning the time change throughout the week, slowly extend your little oneโ€™s wake windows Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If your child is less than a year old, only extend the wake windows by 5-10 minutes. If your child is older than a year, try extending the wake windows by 10-15 minutes. Simultaneously keep an eye on sleep cues as you want to avoid flirting with overtiredness if you can. Offering a bedtime 15-30 minutes earlier than normal may also be something to consider on Sunday night. On Monday, resume normal wake windows and sleep timing as best you can.

We are "Falling Back" at the end of this week. To help make it easier, we have put together some ways to ease your little one into the time change without much disruption to their regular schedules. Here is OPTION #1 that you can implement starting today (Tuesday). Stay tuned for more preparation tips throughout the week - we will post OPTION #2 on Thursday. ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒ™โฒ

PREPARATION TIPS - 5 Months to 3 Years Old:

๐Ÿ’œ Starting Tuesday, start the day 10 minutes LATER throughout the week. Bump all sleep throughout the day 10 minutes LATER, including bedtime. By the time you get to Saturday night, the time change will reset everything back to your usual timing.

๐Ÿ’œ EXAMPLE: If your little one typically starts the day around 6:00am, try and hold off on starting the day until 6:10am on Tuesday morning. This will bump wake windows / naps and bedtime out by 10 minutes as well. For Wednesday, the day would start closer to 6:20am; Thursday 6:30am; Friday 6:40am; and Saturday 6:50am. When the time change happens, the final addition of 10 minutes will return you to the regular 6:00am wake up. If your little one is awake for these extra 10 minutes, that is ok! You are attempting to hold night time space for them just a bit longer during this week while you slowly roll out the hour time change rather than having the whole 60 minutes hit your schedule between Saturday and Sunday.

October is Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month. ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’™

By raising awareness, we hope to provide support and understanding to those who have experienced such a heartbreaking loss.

Although 1 in 4 pregnancies end in loss, it's a statistic that is rarely ever talked about. The more we talk about it, the more we make those in the community feel less alone.

We are sending love and support to parents, family and friends grieving the loss of a pregnancy or infant. This October, letโ€™s break the silence and light the way with love.

Check out our next "Doula Spotlight." Meet Barbara O'Brien! ๐Ÿ“ฃ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ’œ Favorite local place to visit on the weekend: The rink, the baseball field, the basketball court, the golf courseโ€ฆMy 17 and 15 year old sons play multiple sports and there is nowhere else Iโ€™d rather be than watching them do what they love!โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ’œ Daily habit you never skip: Saying my morning gratitude prayerโ€ฆ.because the more grateful you are, the more beauty youโ€™ll see. ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ’œ Favorite part about working with postpartum clients: Itโ€™s incredibly rewarding to see parents grow more confident and relaxed with each passing week. This transformation comes not only from the emotional, physical, and practical support we offer, but also from the invaluable lessons that belong entirely to them - learning to embrace imperfection and trusting their own parental instincts, because no one knows their baby better than they do. โœจ

๐Ÿ’œ Anything you want to share or think is fun: My husband and I own restaurants, but itโ€™s really his thing. People ask me questions all the time about cooking etc., and I laugh because I canโ€™t even make toast without burning it!
