Safety-Care by QBS's Erin Mayberry recently had the opportunity to sit down with Katy Rabenold, Special Education Supervisor for the Enhanced Autism Program at Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 in Pennsylvania, to discuss her district's journey with Safety-Care.

Positive outcomes Katy has observed include:

Increased self-regulation skills among students with significant behavioral challenges.
Reduced reliance on physical interventions by emphasizing proactive strategies.
Greater teamwork among staff to problem-solve unique challenges rather than feel frustrated by them.

Responding to escalated behaviors with restraint or seclusion can have lasting effects on students. Reducing the use of these practices requires a district-wide commitment to systemic change. In the Auburn School District in Washington, Patrick Mulick has led a comprehensive shift away from restraint and seclusion through multidisciplinary collaboration, improved systems, tiered behavior supports, and effective use of Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). One significant step in this transformation was the adoption of Safety-Care. Patrick will be joined by Erin Mayberry from QBS to briefly discuss the features of Safety-Care and how it equips staff to prevent and support escalated behaviors.
