No one will take care this situation but us. As a professional massage Therapists, we need to protect ourselves at all times.
Please read more....
I am a licensed Massage Therapist in illinois. I started my own business 2015. I had a very few to almost none situation like this because I called it to quit or stop when I see signs from the beginning before they even started. And these are my suggestions to all Massage Therapists: 1) Dress and Act professionally 2) Speak with confidence, politely and knowledgeable 3) learn and educate yourself continuously to know and provide the best treatment you can 4) Do not allow your client to speak with you unprofessionally... example, if a client called me sweetheart... I teach them to call me by my name, Thelma. 5) if a male client wants to kiss or hug me after a session, I told them NO.... ( not unless I know them already and ONLY if they need a friendly hug when they like lost or death of a beloved). 6) I treat every client with highest respect and professionalism, therefore if they asked like " do you do happy endings?"... my answer is NO and please don't ask that question because it's offensive as you can see I am professional. I told them with complete sentence without emotion but with confidence. So they will respond, I am sorry and they will not call and come back anymore OR they won'task it anymore and respect you as a professional Massage therapist ( if you give them another chance). ALSO, when they act or move while I am massaging them and there's sign of inappropriate thoughts... I CALL IT LOUDLY and with CONVICTION... like Sir, please don't move and stay in the table facing down, while we are in session. I usually DO NOT MASSAGE facing up. And if i do, when they faced up, I covered them professionally, even doubled in the private area (and if men, I crumbled/folded another sheet on their private area, so it's not bothering the treatment session). 7) Men respects women when you demand and control the situation. (All clients MUST WEAR THEIR UNDERWEAR at all times, no excuse. But if they insist, they remain facing down the whole treatment, no exemption).
AS WOMEN MASSAGE THERAPIST, we should not allow ANYONE TO DISRESPECT US by RESPECTING OUR CLIENTS AND OURSELVES. PROTECT OURSELVES IN ALL TIMES. IF YOU SEE IT, YOU SAY IT PROFESSIONALLY. DO NOT LET THEM KNOW THAT YOU ARE OFFENDED OR DEGRADED. YOU LET THEM FEEL YOU ARE IN CONTROL. 8) IF in anytime you feel uncomfortable amd disrespected... leave the room IMMEDIATELY and asked the client to leave and DO NOT FORGET to SPEAK YOUR MIND AND TELL HIM OR HER WITH CONVICTION. AND IN FULL SENTENCE... " I NEED TO STOP AND WOULD LIKE YOU TO LEAVE THE PLACE IMMEDIATELY. I DON'T LIKE THE WORDS YOU ARE TELLING ME OR ACTS YOU ARE SHOWING. PLEASE LEAVE AND DO NOT EVER COME BACK OR CALL. OR I WILL CALL A POLICE. Without shouting but with controlled emotions. DO NOT REACT.... YOU RESPOND PROFESSIONALLY.
Also, please do not be silent and be horrified at that moment, you need to control your emotions. Speak loudly and call the actions and conversation as it is. If you feel, disrespected.... say it and tell to the client with controlled emotions. Tell them, YOU DO NOT APPRECIATE WHAT HE OR SHE IS SAYING AND ACTING. THAT IT IS INAPPROPRIATE AND OFFESIVE. THEY MUST LEAVE immediately and YOU DON'T ALLOW ANYONE TO DISRESPECT YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS.
FYI: Do not waste an opportunity to let this people know how you must be respected OR ELSE you will regret that you wasted the chance to confront and take care of the situation. No one will do that for us...but us. Protect ourselves in all times.
