NOT A TYPICAL THANKSGIVING POST

Hi there! The holidays can be interesting.

Full of gatherings, festivities, food, drink, gifts, exciting life events and so on.

But sometimes all those things, as amazing as they *can* be, can simultaneously feel heavy, burdensome, and stressful.

This is your reminder to listen to your body and your thoughts and don’t be afraid to step away, go home early, pass on the next drink, or have the second piece of pie. In other words, go easy on yourself.

But also☝🏼

Don’t be afraid to take a deep breath and release yourself of the pressure of having “it all figured out” today or chasing your dream body, dream career, or dream anything today.

Happiness, health, and harmony aren’t accomplished in a single day. And they certainly aren’t wrecked in a single day either.

Instead, perhaps today is the day you allow yourself to JUST BE. Allow yourself the present moment. Where your primary responsibility/focus is to be grateful for the right here/right now. Give yourself permission to release everything else. I promise you, if it’s important enough, you can pick it back up tomorrow (or don’t, you’ve got that choice).

Wishing you all a lovely Thanksgiving chock full of peace and the gift to yourself of being present.

VALENTINE’S DAY THOUGHTS 2022

Just a few thoughts…I hope this brings value to you today.

It’s ok to celebrate…
Just remember, if you don’t like the pressure of the “holiday” today, well today is only 1 of 365 days you get to celebrate the people you love! Do it your way!! But don’t be afraid to celebrate the love in your life!! Love comes in all forms (familial, work, friendship, intimate, fur babies etc.)

Singles, don’t you hang your head low!!
I don’t know your story but I know Valentine’s Day can hit hard sometimes. Those feelings are ok! I encourage you to acknowledge those feelings. I also encourage you to focus on the blessings that can come with being single. Coming from someone who spent 3.5 years in an unhealthy/toxic relationship, being single can be a gift:
• Gift of dating intentionally
• Gift of peace
• Gift of choosing who has access to your heart

One final thought…
I HIGHLY encourage you to NOT say to your single friends that “your time is coming” or “you will meet someone eventually” because that discounts their ability and need to accept that ONLY they (and God) can make them whole. There is no external person or thing that can do that for us. Please don’t distract them from embracing that THEY ARE ENOUGH being single, that THEY ARE LOVED being single, and that THEY ARE WHOLE being single.

ARE YOU FEELING A BIT DETACHED FROM YOURSELF?

Feeling like the world is too LOUD?
Feeling overstimulated and exhausted because of the OPINIONS and JUDGEMENT you see everywhere?
Feeling like you’re behind on everything you’re trying to accomplish when you compare your accomplishments to others?

Here are 3 things you can do RIGHT NOW to quiet the world, connect to your authentic self, and reclaim some empowerment IMMEDIATELY.

Step away from whatever you’re doing. You need about 5-7 minutes. “I need to go to the bathroom” is an easy way to find the time/space if you share space with others.

1. Sit in silence for 3-5 minutes. Set the timer on your phone and allow yourself to set everything in your mind aside for those few minutes. Focus on your breath. Breathe deeply. Exhale fully. There is nothing else to do in these minutes except allow your mind to release the world, release the noise. Now you’ve got a quiet mind.

2. Once you’ve “quieted” the noise, ask yourself - “What is one thing I’m doing GREAT right now?” It can be the smallest thing. But pick something you feel good about and celebrate it. Say out loud, “Hey I don’t need to compare my journey to others’ journey. I need to celebrate MY growth and successes. Even though I have so much I want to do, I can’t forget how far I’ve come and how I’m doing XYZ consistently, strongly, focused, lovingly, patiently.” (Or whatever descriptive is most appropriate)

3. Finally, get rid of ONE THING that makes you doubt yourself or brings you “yucky feelings” every time you see it, something that is distracting or doesn’t positively impact your journey. Stop following that account that brings negative feelings. Block the toxic ex. Unsubscribe from an email list that is tiresome. Remove yourself from a group chat that only brings feelings of irritation. You’ll be surprised at how empowering this action feels!

Now you can go be present with the rest of your evening! Enjoy! ❤️

THIS IS ME, BLOCKING DEBILITATING THOUGHTS!!

Do you have big goals for 2022?!

Me too!

And I am not immune to the debilitating thoughts that can paralyze progress towards goals.

Am I good enough? I’m scared…I don’t want to fail. Ugh what if I fail?!? Do I have what it takes? Do I have the right skills and talents? How will I maintain focus and energy?

But here’s the bigger question. If I quit because I’m scared, will there be relief? Or will the regret of quitting be worse than the fear of failing?

Here’s a gut check:
Are your goals aligned with your resolute pursuit towards health, happiness and harmony?

If yes, then do it scared! DO IT SCARED! No matter what, you’ll grow, you’ll learn, and you will no doubt positively impact your journey! If you fail, you’ll fail forward!

Pic 5 - WHAT I ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE WHEN I WAKE UP EVERY DAY. Puffy eyes…pink cheeks…oversized wrinkled shirt and hair looking like a HOT MESS!

The REALITY is most days I look like the last picture. 99% of the time! All that changes is my hair goes into a bun and I put on workout clothes. 1% of the time I get all dolled up and look like the other pictures. This is my RARITY.

But! ☝🏼 I don’t tend to document my day-to-day so you see the 1% when I’m looking ready for a fun photo shoot instead of the 99% when I’m not.

This isn’t a problem for me. I had fun getting dressed up and taking these pictures. I also love being dressed down. And I’ve built a life around being able to choose how much time I spend in either (which is 99% of the time dressed down).

The problem comes when you find yourself measuring YOUR REALITY to MY RARITY…your 99% with everyone else’s 1%…and label yourself as somehow less than or falling short or not as {insert descriptive here} because your life doesn’t “look” like mine or your body doesn’t “look” like mine etc etc etc. THIS IS A TRAP!!

Although some may share more reality with the public than I do, the fact remains that you aren’t getting the full picture of anyone’s life. DON’T MEASURE YOUR REALITY TO ANYONE ELSE’S RARITY IN ORDER TO DETERMINE YOUR VALUE OR SUCCESS OR PROGRESS.

All those negative labels based on a REALITY VS RARITY perspective can only ever result in negative feelings about yourself. Those negative feelings feed into a belief system that you can’t accomplish what you want, live the life you want, achieve the optimal health you want and so on. It’s a vicious cycle friend. It won’t take you where you want to go.

“But what about all the people online that I follow that inspire me.” YESSSS keep finding people, coaches, mentors that inspire you and help you grow. Just don’t label yourself against what you “see” online.

RECLAIMING YOUR HARMONY

How do you find yours? How do you get it back?

When your mind is spinning...

When you are caught in a vicious loop of debilitating thoughts and emotions...

When anxiety appears in your back and slowly begins creeping up to your shoulders and into your neck...

Are you able to stop these negative cycles and get back to a state of calmness and peace?

I’d like to share the methodology I use to help clients reclaim harmony in their life!

NOTE: This process is not a quick one. It takes work and time to move through these steps because we’ve trained ourselves to accept living in a CONSTANT STATE OF DISTRESS!

The HOW
The first step in reclaiming your harmony is awareness. I often find that my clients spend YEARS not being aware of HOW stress and other external factors are impacting them emotionally AND physically.

THE WHAT
Once you identify HOW stress is showing up “in” you, you can then start paying attention to what is CAUSING those reactions in your body. WHAT is the catalyst? Is it after spending time with a certain person? Is it after certain work meetings? Is it after social media time? Pay attention to what is going on when those feelings of stress/anxiety/lack of calmness & peace begin building within you.

THE CHANGE
This is where the magic happens. Once you identify HOW stress is showing up in you, and you identify WHAT is causing the stress to show up, you’re then empowered to slowly create shifts in your life to either reduce the exposure to the catalysts OR create habits that help you return to harmony quickly.

When you begin mastering this process, it is LIFE-CHANGING. No more helplessly spinning out of control. No more debilitating thoughts for days without understanding how to get out. It is a path to creating (or reclaiming) your missing zen.

WHAT’S CHANGED SINCE COVID?

Pretty much EVERYTHING.

This picture was taken almost 2 years ago. Seeing it made me reflect on how much has changed...and more importantly how I feel about that change.

I sold almost all I own to FINALLY become a full-fledged nomad - a desire I’ve had since the start of my business in 2014. All my belongings can fit in my car. Living minimally brings peace & space for other things I prefer to pour myself into.

I stopped all in-person training. This was initially involuntary due to Covid restrictions, but after much reflection, I decided to remain virtual because it best aligns with my H3ighten journey.

I started traveling regularly {another long-term desire I’m following through on}. I’ve spent more time with loved ones than I have in DECADES. I find I’m also more present when I’m with company.

I’ve changed ALL my “health”’routines; creating more space emotionally & physically for self-care, reflection, prayer, healing, and rejuvenation. I also have more energy and capacity for my goals and passions.

I could itemize the LAUNDRY LIST of things that have been hard over the last 13 months, {there have been many}. But those things were given their proper attention when it was needed. It doesn’t add value to my life to re-hash what I’ve settled or made peace with. If something resurges, I search for the pieces that still need love & attention, and give so accordingly.

But ultimately...amid all the unknown, political chaos, a worldwide pandemic and so much more, this difficult year created choices. And I made decisions that best aligned with my enh3ightenment. I chose to evolve and learn and grow rather than get stuck.

But what HASN’T changed?

My pursuit of - a deeper sense of happiness, health, and harmony. And the OVERWHELMING fulfillment I get from helping my clients get unstuck and uncover their own enh3ightenment path.

LOSS & LIVING FULLY

One week ago today, I gave my angel back to God.

That sweet baby blessed my life in more ways than I could ever list. Losing her is a bittersweet but important reminder that every second of life we have is a gift and should be lived fully.

I drastically changed my life nearly 7 years ago to follow a different path...one that has allowed a much fuller life. I don’t mean filled with furniture or clothes or to do’s or social media likes or fancy titles. I mean a life filled with intention & meaning, allowing me to be in the here and now, living IN my life’s story rather than watching my life pass me by. Certainly a life that allowed much more time with my fur angel and a LOT LESS of the meaningless, joy-stealing, life-robbing behaviors we can get sucked into.

My alternate path gave me the distinct honor of helping others learn to do the same...to curate more meaningful & full lives while learning how to get rid of and/or overcome anything that gets in the way. Coaching clients on this path brings me pure, uninhibited joy.

Life is so very short. You and I cannot afford to give time away to meaningless cycles.

Loss is hard. Regret is harder. There is peace in loss when we know we are living life to our FULLEST. When we’re striving for the best version of ourselves, giving life all we got and intentionally enjoying all the blessing it gives back. It is NEVER too late to change directions. If you desire a life with more meaning, if you’re craving a FULL life, you can start right. this. second.

Rest In Peace baby girl. I’ll see you again. Thank you for reminding me how precious each day is and to NEVER stop living fully. Thank you for giving life all you had until the very end.

You don’t feel like it. It hurts. Your body is dragging. You’re already tired and you haven’t even started. Emotionally you’d rather just be sleeping or eating comfort food. Any of this resonate?! THREE HACKS:
1. Try just doing something!

Something is *almost* always going to be better than doing nothing.

2. Break down the workout into smaller increments!

If you want to stop (or not start at all), give yourself incremental goals rather than looking at the end goal. It becomes a little game you play with yourself. A game you want to win!

Example: If you were supposed to lift weights for 5 sets and you want to quit at set 2, tell yourself to at least finish 3 sets. You might be surprised that achieving that smaller goal gives you the mental burst you need to push into the 4th or 5th set. But even if you only finish the 3rd set, you’ve already done more than when you initially wanted to quit! I gave you a running example in my video!

3. Ask yourself “why is this so hard?” The more you track & pay attention to your behaviors, the better you know yourself and what you need to set yourself up for success (this applies to many facets of life but I’m referring to fitness here). Identify what you need (and what you can control) and then work on that!! Asking myself “why was this so hard?” helped me identify what got in my way so I can focus on controllable factors!! There are exceptions to this methodology that I teach clients (when you shouldn’t workout)...but most of the time, doing something is doing better than doing nothing!! Hope this helps you today!
