If stillness is the hardest part of class, this event is designed with you in mind. Together we will explore variations of common savasana shapes, with and without props. We will learn various ways to help yourself and your students feel safe physically and energetically in this posture of stillness. After lecture and discussion, we will close with a Restorative Yoga practice to allow the lessons to settle into our bones. This event will be beneficial to anyone taking or teaching yoga, and 2 CEUs are available upon completion for those yoga teachers registered with Yoga Alliance.

Yesterday I was at community acupuncture at Yoga , setting up bolsters and blankets on the floor so I could comfortably rest for a half hour and ease some anxiety that’s been swirling around. Dorcus said, “It’s like you’re playing Legos.” Yes, that’s it! I did always love Legos… I had the pastel colored set of course. Putting the pieces together to bring a whole beautiful object to life was my jam. That's a lot what I am up to in teaching Restorative Yoga. Using all these props to build a whole shape to create a soft gentle, cozy space for my clients to come to life - to be comfortable enough to be still for a bit so they can welcome all their parts home into the wholeness of their heart.

People think I’m good at rest because I teach it. I am actually good at practicing it…sometimes. It doesn’t come easy for me. Sometimes my rest is actually a collapse or disassociation because no other pathway exists in that moment. Other times it brings me into the magic of the present moment, links me with spirit, connects me to my creative flow, or even co-regulates me with my community. I do this work because I know this work in my own body and I’ve been studying and practicing rest for 10 years. I teach this practice because I need it and I want to live in a world that is joyfully rested.

I'd love to teach YOU about this practice. Whether you're looking for a quick learning moment or a deep dive - I have options for you (CEs available for Yoga Alliance teachers). I have a short workshop on this Sunday at 2pm at Yogamour Yoga & Healing Arts Center to teach you how to set yourself up in a comfortable savasana. If it's hard to find that dreamy space with just a yoga mat and bunch of sweaty bodies surrounding the space you’re in, let me introduce you to the props. You might learn how to actually support that twinge in your low back, or your unhappy hip and I can help you - I have a whole bag of Legos (I mean blankets) to help you find another way.

If you're wanting to dive deeper into the study of Restorative Yoga and support your own clients - spend the whole weekend learning at OM Shala, my home studio in Middletown, MD January 30 - February 1.

If you're still in that weird space where you don't know what day it is... same! What I do know is that the moon is full because she is beautiful and bright tonight. I am so grateful to be offering my full moon rituals this year again at Roots & River Yoga. I hope you'll join us for the first one as we create space for connection and reflection of our own cycles while exploring the Wolf Moon themes of shedding, resiliency, and rest.

I feel so grateful to have been able to take a dip into some extra sunshine in warmer weather last week. One part of my trip that was deeply nourishing was stopping whatever we were doing every day for at least 20 minutes to watch the sunset. To witness the warm sun drop to the horizon and carry us into the mystery of the night. A powerful moment to pause and let the mind and body process the day and ease into the evening. This was a rest ritual.

I’d like you to join me for a weekly pause rest ritual with a practice of Restorative Yoga. Starting January 1, I am leading a VIRTUAL weekly series to help you create a rhythm of a powerful pause. Our culture loves to come in hot with the energy of the New Year and I’d like to offer you something different... I’d love to help you ease into the new year with a warm blanket so you can sustain your energy and put it to good use come spring time when things are ready to grow. and bloom. Gather up all your blankies and pillows to enjoy a guided rest practice sprinkled with winter magic, yoga philosophy, and soulful poetry.
