β€œIn birth, we find the courage we never knew we had and the strength that was there all along.” – Marcie Macari

Hi, my name is Bria Comer. I am a birth doula, as well as a dance teacher, licensed physical therapist assistant, and a mama to my son, daughter, and dog! I am so excited that you are considering the idea of a doula. I believe that everyone deserves the support and knowledge of a birth doula to help make childbirth the beautiful journey it should be. My background in dance and physical therapy, in combination with my doula training, gives me valuable insight into the physiology of the perinatal time frame to help you embrace the power within your body. I have seen firsthand how positioning, massage techniques, intentional movement, and breath work help birthing individuals. My goal as your doula is first and foremost to support you with your needs and desires, whatever decisions you make. I am also interested in helping you learn about normal physiology and movement practices during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum to help empower and educate you. This will help you be in tune with your body and its needs as well, so you can continue to find strength and balance beyond our time together! I also use my knowledge and experience from over 6 years of working in pediatric physical therapy to help educate and guide you on normal infant development, if you are interested.

When you have 2 clients due 6 days apart and it's holiday time, things get a little wild. I'm trying to be better at social media, so here are some moments I took to send a client videos of movements to do.

She texted me a text saying she was having some consistent abdomen cramping after using her spin bike. It sounded like possible prodromal labor. I advised her to call her Midwife so everyone on the team was on the same page, and educated her on prodromal labor.

I encouraged a bath and some gentle and active hip flexor releases after the biking (lots of hip flexion. Fantastic that she is still biking right now, and the anterior cramping shows that she also needs some balance) - standing release, bird dog, lunge with side bend, forward leaning inversion.

Her cramping went away, and I asked for an updated picture of her posture. Her pelvis is a bit tucked with some slight torso leaning, so I added these:

Two different hip hinges for pelvic balance and strength/length through both front and back. Some hip shifting for inner thigh release and posterior pelvic floor spreading. Some rotation to stretch out the back and prepare the body for movements she might need in labor. And always puppy snuggles.

I'm not great at social media or getting pictures of clients, but I am great at looking at your body, seeing what is unbalanced or maybe leading to pain or compensation, and helping you work through those things to help pregnancy, birth, and postpartum be joyous instead of painful.

This clip is a quick compilation from a follow-along video I made for a client after a quick postural assessment. I am informed by my current pro training, my experience as a licensed PTA, and my many years teaching dance.

All advice given is not meant to be medical advice and should be cleared with your provider. I'm happy to explain my reasoning for any movements. The overall goal is to optimize your body's position and movement patterns.

Nothing you are doing or not doing is wrong! We want full range of motion throughout the body, we want you to find connection between your movement and breath, we want you to be able to soften into spots of tension and stabilize through over-lengthened areas.

Pregnancy doesn't have to be painful or uncomfortable, and you have within you the power to help make it more balanced and joyous. Are you pregnant right now and want to see what your body needs? Join me and let's investigate together! πŸ’•

Happy Thanksgiving!

Taking pictures during sessions/ births is usually the last thing on my mind, so I can't make the type of reels I see with sweet connection moments, but I am incredibly grateful to get to share those moments, hear your stories, continue to learn, and be surrounded by this incredible birth world.

Thank you to everyone who has welcomed me as a doula into their lives so far. I am honored to walk this path with you πŸ’–

When I decided my business name was "Bria the Dancing Doula," obviously my dance training and teaching factored into that. But more importantly, I continue to be amazed with the more I learn about how we can help our bodies through movement and connecting to our own needs.

Dance is very much about both physicality and emotion, and being able to combine that with birth work has been like finding my purpose. I am in pro training right now and am loving piecing together alignment, breath work, movement patterns, and intentional exercise to help put together the puzzle of birth...and also prepare the body for the craziness of postpartum!

Whether you have a gym membership, a pool pass, a bike to ride, a neighborhood to walk through, or anything else, you have a body to move! Do you know how to move it to best suit your needs? Do you know how to support your core through breath work and postural awareness to stay safe navigating over toys and diapers and whatever else is on the floor?

My goal as your doula is first and foremost to honor your journey and your desires, and to help empower and support you throughout. I also provide a personalized look at your movement patterns to help optimize your individual body's needs, for pregnancy, birth, and beyond. Let's connect and see what you need!

There are a number of aches and pains and issues that many just accept as part of pregnancy. A quick Google search will confirm that these things are all "normal." But why?

I'm doing Body Ready Method Pro training right now, and this thought stuck out for me. Just because it's normal doesn't mean it's necessary. Why would we accept these pains as just part of pregnancy when we could work on them, adjust them, and make not only pregnancy but also birth and postpartum easier?!

Did you know that your birth worker may be trained in analyzing and adjusting your alignment, your gait pattern, your breathing, your tension patterns? I never force any of this on clients, but as your "dancing doula" I do emphasize the power of movement to help you in whatever stage you're in! Simply being aware of your breathing pattern might lead to adjustments that better mobilize your rib cage, and thus your pelvic floor, making it easier to breathe, to birth, to just be.

Wave of light day 2025

For all those who have experienced pregnancy and/or infant loss. I see you, I honor you and your sweet babe(s) who were taken too soon.

Pregnancy after loss can be a challenge. I never got to meet my first two babies, and I wonder who they would be today if I had ever gotten to. Officially this was supposed to be at 7 pm, but I absolutely wanted to continue the wave of light today to remind anyone going through the darkness right now that you are not alone, and I hope this wave of light helps you feel supported and connected.

A day in the life...

I started this yesterday since I knew I had a client prenatal and we would be doing movements to help flip transverse babe, and I wanted to share.

Lots of things changed throughout the day but I had already started and I'm trying to be better about social media, so here you go haha.

πŸ₯œ because fresh is delicious
πŸ›Œ well that was unexpected
πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ 🐾 for fresh air and sunshine and puppy smiles
πŸͺ¨ because play... and to give my back a break
πŸ“– library for meeting and play
🧺 so many clothes
😴
πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ more fresh food...many of which are favorites for birth/postpartum snacks!
πŸ“š nighttime reading
πŸ’• because co-sleeping
πŸ’ͺ your body is amazing!!
🦁 even if your hair is crazy

I'll definitely get a video of our movement session later to keep baby flipping!

Happy October!

October babies are said to commonly be fearless and independent. Who has or is expecting an October baby?

Just in case your house is a bit more messy than you'd like, maybe this will help you feel better πŸ˜‰

At any given point in time, at least one of the rooms in my house looks like this. Marker on the wall, colored tape on the floor, doggies strategically trying to sleep among it. It's a lot!

Did you know, among many other things, postpartum doulas can help your house stay clean, to help the transition to new motherhood (first time or subsequent, they're both new journeys) feel a bit less intense?

(I'm great at keeping OTHER people's houses neat haha πŸ˜„)

It's okay if, instead of cleaning, you
πŸ₯ͺ eat
🀱 feed your kiddo
πŸ’€ sleep
πŸ‹β€β™€οΈ exercise
πŸ“– read a book
πŸ“Ί watch TV
πŸ›€ take a bath/shower
🎨 paint a picture
Etc!!

It's okay to embrace the chaos of young children, and also feel a bit overwhelmed and scatterbrained because of it! Just here to say I see you, I feel for you, there is no prize for cleanest house, and you are amazing!

Happy September!

What a beautiful month with many new beginnings. It may coincide with the start of school, the changing of seasons, getting back into a routine...and, for many, a new baby!

Did you know September is the most common birth month? πŸ‘Ά

Wherever you're at, pregnant or TTC or starting school or traveling the world, take a moment today to breathe in the changing air, exhale what you don't need to carry with you into this new month, and wiggle your hips (whether that's to make space for baby, or to seduce your partner into making a baby, or just to feel the groove πŸ˜‰ πŸ’ƒπŸ»)

Happy Labor Day! Sending all the baby vibes to everyone who goes or is hoping to go into labor today ✨️

(Posting in the middle of the night in case your water broke while you were sleeping and now you're scrolling social media waiting for contractions to start...or for those whose pregnancy insomia also has them up scrolling πŸ˜‰)

You are strong and powerful! Know your choices (positions and movements, pain management tools, breath support, eating and drinking during labor, and the ability to ask questions about what's being done!) and have a partner (and/or doula πŸ˜‰) with you to support you and help keep you in your flow.

You've got this.

Hi! πŸ‘‹ Welcome to my page πŸ’«
If you are wondering what I offer, here you go!

This is just what I can bullet point. The real doula magic is through connection, conversation, and learning your own personal needs.

I feel so fortunate to have entered this beautiful birthing world to both learn and educate, and apply my love of and experience with guided movement to pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Are you thinking of hiring a doula? I would love to meet you, learn your story, and help you get the experience you deserve!
