My heart aches this week. I sat with several clients this week who are out of food, out of options, and now won’t get food stamps next month because of the government shutdown. We spent our sessions not on trauma processing, but on basic coping skills and how they’re going to eat. We made an action plan, looked up food banks, and community resources, but those are already stretched thin. They won’t be enough, and they won’t last forever.

I am angry. Angry that people are forced to beg for food and one of the richest countries in the world. Angry that my client’s “treatment goals” now include basic survival. You can’t process trauma when you’re starving. You can’t heal your body when it isn’t safe.

We need better systems, not more platitudes. Your thoughts and prayers aren’t feeding people.

If your day-to-day looks like taking care of everyone but yourself… this one’s for you. 💛

It’s easy to fall into the pattern of being the reliable one, the friend who listens, the coworker who steps up, the family member who keeps the peace.

But being there for everyone else doesn’t mean you stop deserving care, too.

You don’t have to earn rest. You don’t have to justify needing space. You’re allowed to be someone who gives and receives support.

You’re not dramatic for feeling hurt. You’re not weak for wanting support.

Somewhere along the way, “I’m fine” became safer than being honest, because honesty used to come with consequences.

Learning to tell the truth about what we need can feel foreign at first, but it’s part of healing. You deserve relationships where your feelings are safe to name. 💛

When you’ve been in survival mode for so long, numb can start to feel like the safest place to be. 🫠
