Rise New Brighton joined forces yesterday with the New Brighton Community Center and community volunteers to support Good in the 'Hood’s Shoe Away Hunger program through a hands‑on shoe‑sorting event! 👟

After nearly a month of collecting new and used shoes from community members, the group worked together to carefully sort every pair based on wear and tear, track sizes, and organize them for distribution.

The shoes will be sold back into the community with a requested $6 donation, and every pair provides a full week of food for two people in need throughout Minnesota.

We’re proud to share that the shoes sorted yesterday will generate enough funds to feed 1,004 people for one week! 🎉

Our people served loved volunteering and making a difference close to home, and we look forward to participating in future shoe‑sorting events! 👞💙

Meet Natalia Gustafson!

Natalia has been part of the Rise community for four years and currently attends Rise Cottage Grove. As one of Rise’s first Restaurant Ready graduates, she continues to show growth and potential - especially through her creativity.

Natalia enjoys many art forms, including woodburning, painting, knitting, crocheting, and photography. With support from Rise, she’s turned her passion into a small craft business, 'Crafts by Talia', and is successfully participating in local craft fairs!

Beyond her artistic skills, Natalia inspires others at Rise to try new things. She shared, “I hear a lot of people at Rise Cottage Grove doubt themselves when they don’t know how to do crafts. I try to inspire other people and tell them they can do it if they put their mind to it.”

We’re so proud of you, Natalia! 🎨💛

Behind every success at Rise is the right support - and for Tayli Carlson, that support comes from Ryan Miller, her Rise Minnesota Employment Center (MEC) Occupational Communications Specialist.

Tayli is Deaf, and Ryan works closely with her to make sure she has the communication access, confidence, and tools she needs to succeed in her role as a dining associate at Bethel University. They regularly check in to talk through challenges, plan for goals, and problem-solve everything from workplace communication to navigating reliable transportation.

With Ryan’s support, Tayli has grown into a confident advocate for herself and a valued member of the Bethel University dining team.

“Tayli is hard working, focused, and has a real can-do spirit,” Ryan shares.

Happy Earth Day! 🌍

Earth Day is extra special this year for Rise New Brighton.

Beginning in January, people served worked together to collect aluminum cans through their "Recycle with Rise" project. Working with the New Brighton Community Center and Irondale High School's Special Education Program, they collected aluminum cans from the community and recycled them at Metro Metals Recycling in St. Paul - while also saving pop tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest.

Thanks to their hard work, the group nearly doubled their goal of recycling 100 pounds of aluminum cans by Earth Day! ♻️

It’s National Volunteer Appreciation Week!

This week, we celebrate the volunteers who give their time and talents to support our mission. Our volunteers play a vital role in enriching the lives of those we serve and helping our programs grow.

Each year, more than 100 volunteers donate over 600 hours of time and energy, helping make many special events and one‑time projects possible across our programs and sites.

Thank you to all our volunteers for making a difference!
