April is National Occupational Therapy Month 💙✨

So… what is pediatric OT? 👇

Occupational therapists help children build the skills they need to participate in everyday life!

Pediatric OTs support:
✂️ Fine motor skills (handwriting, cutting, self-care)
🏃 Gross motor skills (balance, coordination, play)
🧠 Sensory processing (understanding and responding to sensory input)
🧼 Daily living skills (dressing, feeding, independence)
💛 Emotional regulation (coping strategies + managing big emotions)

OT is all about helping kids grow, gain confidence, and thrive in their daily routines 💫

Let’s celebrate the incredible work OTs do to support our kids and families every day!

36–48 months is a BIG time for language growth!

At this stage, your child may begin to:
🗣️ Speak in longer sentences
❓ Ask lots of “who, what, where, why” questions
🧠 Follow directions—even when items aren’t in sight
👫 Use pronouns like I, you, we, and they
📖 Tell stories and talk about their day
🎭 Engage in pretend play and interactive games

Every child develops at their own pace, but these milestones give a helpful guide of what to look for!

If you have concerns about your child’s communication, early support can make a big difference!

The sensory swing is one of our favorite tools here! 💫

Vestibular input from swinging helps children develop:
• Balance
• Coordination
• Body awareness
• Emotional regulation
• Attention and focus

Movement + play = powerful learning.

✨ 18–24 Month Language Milestones ✨

Your toddler is growing fast—and so is their communication! Between 18–24 months, you may start to see:

Following simple directions (without gestures)
Making fun sounds (like animal noises!)
Repeating words they hear
Using early concepts like in, out, up, down
Pointing to objects when named
Naming familiar items in their environment
Starting to use two-word phrases (e.g., “more milk”)

If you have concerns about your child’s communication, early support can make a BIG difference 💛

Our Story

Our speech therapists or feeding therapists provide phone consultations with new family members before enrolling their child in our speech therapy or feeding therapy programs. Our speech therapy specialists or feeding therapy specialists provide our client’s families with personalized treatment plans for review and agreement prior to beginning therapy. Our speech pathologists encourage parents to watch their child during our speech therapy or feeding therapy sessions - whether therapy is held at our Frisco or McKinney clinics or through our online TeleHealth speech therapy services from your home. For busy parents who can't arrange therapy during the week, we have Saturday appointments available. A therapy summary is given to our client’s family after their child's treatment sessions by our SLP's. When their child reaches the goals of their treatment plan, our SLP's discuss their child's results with their family as well as possible continuing support that can be provided by the family Frisco Feeding & Speech Therapy focuses on highly effective communication with our clients, their families and caregivers. We offer speech therapy support in Spanish as well as in English.
