Thinking about AAC for your child but not sure where start? You’re not alone — and you don’t have to figure it out alone either! 💛
Here are a few tips from our Kidspeak SLP team:
🧩 1. Think of AAC as a support, not a last resort.
AAC can help your child learn new words, reduce frustration, and connect with others while speech continues to develop.
🗣️ 2. Model AAC during everyday routines.
If your child’s device or board has symbols for “eat,” “play,” or “help,” use them when you talk! Children learn AAC the same way they learn speech — through repeated, meaningful exposure.
👨👩👧 3. Make it part of home life.
Keep AAC accessible during meals, playtime, and outings — not just during therapy. Communication should never be “put away.”
💬 4. Partner with your child’s speech therapist.
AAC is most effective when families and therapists collaborate. We’ll guide you every step of the way!
