Powell is a native of Central Square, New York, and is excited to turn the focus of his medical career towards bringing Ancient and International Healing practices to Central New York. Dr. Powell has maintained a long time interest in Eastern Philosophical Teachings. Throughout his career as a medical doctor, he has also studied several other alternative integrative healing arts including: Reiki, Cranio Sacral Therapy, Guided Imagery and Spiritual Healing Practices of the Incas. As for his medical background, Dr. Powell earned a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Philosophy from Le Moyne College in 1975, and his MD in a special 3 year accellerated program from SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine in 1978. After returning to the Syracuse area, he completed his internship and residency as Chief Resident in 1982 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY. Dr. Powell then assumed the position of Assistant Professor and Director of Clinics in Obstetrics and Gynecology from 1982-1986 at Upstate Medical Center and St. In 1982 he also started an OB-GYN private practice in Syracuse. While continuing to practice Gynecology, Douglass completed the UCLA and Stanford program in Medical Acupuncture. Following certification in 2007, Dr. Powell opened a Medical Acupuncture Private Practice and is also currently credentialed to practice this art at St. Joseph's Hospital, Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital and Upstate Medical Center as well as his Private Practice in Skaneateles. Dr. Powell also enjoys farming, his three dogs, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying beautiful Central New York. Powell has been working in the medical field for the past 40 years. She has both a traditional western education and 15 years in the integrative eastern methods of medicine. Catherine began her nursing career after graduating from Northeastern University/ Boston Children's School of Nursing. Catherine became interested in Eastern modalities because she always felt there was more to healing. Her methods turned to addressing the mind, body, and spirit of the individual. She became a Certified Reiki Master able to teach and practice all levels of Reiki. As her interests in Eastern medicine deepened, Catherine studied with Dr. Alberto Valaldo and became a Shaman in the Incan tradition. For the past eight years, she has been studying with the Zero Balancing Association and Dr. Fritz Smith. With an interest in all modalities that heal through energy. Catherine has become a master of healing touch. Through gentle, relaxing touch, Catherine is able to heal the mind, body and spirit. In Catherine's medical background, she practiced advanced pediatric nursing in Boston as a clinical Nurse Specialist in diabetes and cystic fibrosis. After returning to the Central New York region, Catherine began working at Upstate Medical Center as a gynecological oncology nurse for 9 years. After earning her Nurse Practioner's Degree from Community General Hospital, Catherine specialized in the field of adolescenct gynecology, gerontology and stress incontince, where she has worked for the past 20 years. Catherine's other interests include: Tai Chi, Yoga, swimming, gardening, interior design, reading, her three dogs, and spending time with her family.
