A “simple” calf strain that wasn’t so simple.

When Molly came to me, she felt stuck. She was doing all the “right” things — stretching consistently, modifying her runs — but nothing was giving her lasting relief. Running was starting to feel less sustainable by the week.

Instead of chasing the calf, we unpacked the full picture. A deeper dive into her movement and training history revealed lingering effects from past knee injuries that were quietly driving the overload.

Once we addressed the true root cause, everything changed. Her calf settled down, her strength improved, and she got back to running with confidence.

If you only treat the symptom, you stay stuck. When you zoom out and address the why, that’s when real, sustainable progress happens.

What Madeleine thought were “just shin splints” turned out to be something much more. When we first connected, she had been pushing through pain that kept getting worse. After a thorough assessment, we uncovered a bone stress injury likely influenced by a previous injury.

With a customized plan built specifically for her, Madeleine didn’t just get back to running… she came back stronger, smarter, and more confident than ever.

Don’t ignore the small signals. The little things can turn into big setbacks if left unchecked.

Spring miles are coming 🌷🏃‍♀️

Is your foot or ankle ready for them?

At Hart & Hustle, we don’t just treat pain, we PREPARE runners.

That means moving past:
❌ endless stretching
❌ random heel raises
❌ guessing if you’re “ready”

Instead, we use data + sports performance testing to help you train, race, and move with confidence.

Whether that’s tackling your first marathon, crushing your next half or 5K, or crushing on a long trail hike.

Foot pronation isn’t a disease. It’s not something to “fix.”

It’s one of the two essential shapes your foot must be able to access.

Your foot naturally moves between pronation and supination and both serve a purpose.

Pronation allows your foot to adapt to the ground, absorb load, and most importantly put force into the ground.
Running.
Squatting.
Jumping.

You can’t do any of these well without pronation.

Yet so often, people are prescribed orthotics and endless exercises designed to block this natural movement.

At Hart & Hustle, we take a different approach.

We help runners and active adults understand their pronation, control it, and use it as a superpower for healthier feet and better performance.

Stop fighting your foot.
Learn how to use it. 💪🦶

Fernando is a little over a year out from ACL surgery.

He “graduated” formal physical therapy, but his confidence on getting back to the soccer field wasn’t there yet. And at the college level “good enough” isn’t enough.

🦵Today we tested single leg power and landing mechanics.
On his RIGHT (ACL leg) you’ll notice:
-More time on the ground to generate power
-Compensation on landing- bending at his waist and kicking his hip out to offload his knee

🔍Force plates take us a step further.
Fernando showed a 24% power deficit and a 27% deficit in landing absorption on his surgical leg.

Now we know exactly where to focus as we build strength, clean up his mechanics, and most importantly get his confidence back up as he gets back on the field. ⚽️💪

When Gwen and I first met, she couldn’t put weight through her wrist or raise her arm overhead.

Fast forward to today and she’s crushing her workouts, moving stronger, and training with confidence again.

Now, Gwen and I check in monthly to maintain her progress, address any small ache before it turns into a bigger issue, and most importantly- keep chasing new fitness goals!

Our last session we strategized how to improve her powerful finishes on the treadmill when she is fatigued!

Great work, Gwen. Keep it up!

Ladan and I first connected early in the fall. She’d been through PT for her knees before, but never to the point where she felt confident with running.

After a thorough evaluation, we built a clear game plan, and she absolutely crushed it. Knee strength 📈. Impact tolerance 🤙. Fast forward and she’s crushed her first 5K.

👀Now she’s got her eyes set on her first ever half marathon in the spring. Watching her continue to move the goalposts has been incredibly rewarding.

Scroll to see a few shots from our latest assessment. We talked about what it really takes to get the job done: strength + power, applied the right way.

Onward, friend. 🏃‍♀️💪
