Essential Tips for Your Mammogram Screening:
Here are 4 straightforward, educational tips for a post about mammogram screening:
Skip the Deodorant (and Powders): On the day of your appointment, do not apply deodorant, powder, or lotion to your underarms or chest. Residue from these products can appear as suspicious spots on the X-ray, potentially leading to a confusing result or a re-test.
Know Your Timing: If you are still having periods, try to schedule your mammogram one week after your period ends. Your breasts are usually less tender and sensitive during this time, which makes the compression less uncomfortable.
Ask for the Estimated Time: When you arrive, ask the technologist how long the actual screening takes. The total visit might be longer, but the compression time itself is often less than a minute per view, which can help manage discomfort.
Confirm the Results Process: Before you leave, make sure you understand how and when you will receive your results (e.g., portal, mail, or a phone call). Knowing the timeline can significantly reduce post-screening anxiety.
