A couple weeks ago, I had the pleasure of working with Stitch! Her owner, Emily, had adopted her about a month earlier and wanted to see if there was anything she could do to help Stitch adjust to her new home.
This was my first time doing Reiki on a horse, and it was an incredible experience! Equine energy feels much different than human energy: slow and expansive, like a lazy river. At first, Stitch seemed fairly balanced, but after 15-20 minutes, I started noticing some things:
👉🏽 She shifted her weight to her left side often. The muscles from neck to hip on that side felt tight, with energy reflecting that same tension.
👉🏽 She was uncomfortable when I worked on her right side, especially around her front right forearm where the energy felt intense.
👉🏽 Her stomach area felt unsettled and fluttery. Possibly anxiety, sensitivity to something she was eating, or both.
👉🏽 I also felt a striking sensation of “baby” energy around her stomach. I wondered if she could possibly be pregnant.
👉🏽 Her throat chakra felt dense, as if she wasn’t comfortable expressing herself or had learned passivity.
👉🏽 Her crown chakra felt dull, suggesting she wasn’t in a mental/emotional state to engage with her surroundings.
After about 45 minutes of sensing and rebalancing, I shared all of this with Emily, and everything began to make sense. Stitch had mainly been used for barrel racing before, spending most of her time training for that. She isn’t currently pregnant, but did have a foal several years ago. Emily also confirmed that Stitch’s left side feels different when she rides, which could perhaps come from her barrel pattern, which has more left turns than right.
We talked about ways to help Stitch come out of her shell - trying new enrichment activities beyond barrel racing, and even considering whether she’d enjoy having a younger companion to nurture.
I checked in with Emily today, and she shared that after doing some different activities over the last couple of weeks, Stitch’s eyes seem clearer. That made me so happy!
I can’t wait to see how Stitch continues to blossom in her new home, and I hope to share more updates along the way! 🐎✨
