" ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐. ๐บ๐๐๐๐ 5 ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐. โฑ๏ธ
We have an "All-or-Nothing" mindset about fitness (thanks, Dr. Burns, for pointing that out!).
We think: "Iโm too busy to go to the gym, so Iโll do nothing."
But as a Nurse Practitioner, I want to introduce you to the concept of "๐ฌ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐."
Research suggests that short bursts of movement (exercise snacks) spread throughout the day can be just as effective for metabolic health as one long session.
Why?
When you move your muscles even just doing overhead presses with water bottles while sitting on the couch your muscles act like sponges. They soak up the glucose (sugar) in your blood stream to use as fuel.
This lowers your insulin. This clears the "fog."
My Current Reality:
I canโt run. I canโt walk for cardio.
So, I am becoming the Queen of the "Arm Workout" between documenting patient charts.
The Challenge:
Do not overcomplicate this.
While your coffee brews? Do 20 squats (or arm circles).
While you brush your teeth? Do calf raises (on your good leg!).
On a Zoom call? Flex your abs.
๐ MOVEMENT CHECK:
What is one "Exercise Snack" you can eat today?
(Iโm doing seated overhead presses. Join me!)
