Hahn Health PLLC

Hahn Health PLLC Hahn Health offers Concierge Primary Care Services in the comfort of your own home. Let your provider spend time getting to know you as a whole person.

Let us customize your care with a focus on what matters most to you. For over a decade, I have worked within the traditional primary care system as a Nurse Practitioner, but felt the limitations of rushed appointments and impersonal care. I witnessed the impact of burnout and stress on both my patients and myself, and knew there had to be a better way. In 2023, I founded Hahn Health to create a practice centered on trust, time, and genuine patient connection. Through in-home primary care in the Lakes Region, and personalized coaching for women seeking freedom from food struggles, I now provide the attentive care I believe everyone deserves. As a resident of the beautiful Lakes Region, alongside my husband and two children, I understand the importance of a balanced, thriving lifestyle. Whether you need trusted medical care or guidance on your wellness journey, I'm here to help you take the next step towards lasting health.

We have an "All-or-Nothing" mindset about fitness (thanks, Dr. Burns, for pointing that out!).
We think: "Iโ€™m too busy to go to the gym, so Iโ€™ll do nothing."
But as a Nurse Practitioner, I want to introduce you to the concept of "๐‘ฌ๐’™๐’†๐’“๐’„๐’Š๐’”๐’† ๐‘บ๐’๐’‚๐’„๐’Œ๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ."

Research suggests that short bursts of movement (exercise snacks) spread throughout the day can be just as effective for metabolic health as one long session.

Why?
When you move your muscles even just doing overhead presses with water bottles while sitting on the couch your muscles act like sponges. They soak up the glucose (sugar) in your blood stream to use as fuel.
This lowers your insulin. This clears the "fog."

My Current Reality:
I canโ€™t run. I canโ€™t walk for cardio.
So, I am becoming the Queen of the "Arm Workout" between documenting patient charts.

The Challenge:
Do not overcomplicate this.
While your coffee brews? Do 20 squats (or arm circles).
While you brush your teeth? Do calf raises (on your good leg!).
On a Zoom call? Flex your abs.

๐Ÿ‘‡ MOVEMENT CHECK:
What is one "Exercise Snack" you can eat today?
(Iโ€™m doing seated overhead presses. Join me!)

Because Recovery and Health is messy.
We want the journey to look like a polished montage where we eat the salad and smile.
In reality?
It looks like sliding a coffee mug across a counter because you canโ€™t walk.
It looks like meal prepping while sitting on a stool because your back hurts.
It looks like ordering the burger without the bun and having to explain it to the waiter.

I found this photo in my camera roll today.
At the time, I remember criticizing myself. I probably thought I looked tired, or I wished I was 5 pounds lighter, or I was stressed about a deadline.
Looking at it now from the perspective of someone recovering from a fractured fibula and torn ligament I just want to shake that woman.

I want to say:
"Do you see that? You are standing. You are walking without pain. Your body is carrying you through the world effortlessly. Stop critiquing it and start thanking it."
We do this with our Metabolic Health, too.
We spend so much time angry at our bodies.
๐Ÿ˜ก "Why is my metabolism so slow?"
๐Ÿ˜ก "Why can't I lose the weight faster?"

We treat our bodies like enemies.
But your body is fighting for you every single second. Even when itโ€™s insulin resistant, it is trying to protect you. Even when itโ€™s inflamed, it is trying to heal you.

The Shift:
You cannot heal a body you hate.
Today, I am looking back at this photo not with sadness, but with a promise:
When I am back on two feet, I will never curse my legs for being "too thick" or "too slow" again. I will just be grateful they can move.

We often look at our habits and ask: "Why can't I stop?"
Dr. David Burns teaches us a different question: "What is the Cost-Benefit Analysis?"
Last week (Day 3), we admitted the Benefits: Sugar soothes us. Itโ€™s reliable. Itโ€™s quick comfort.

But as the CEO of your own health, you have to look at the Costs.
If we continue to use food to treat our feelings, we have to pay the invoice.
When I look at Metabolic Syndrome, the "price tag" for that nightly sugar hit usually includes:
โŒ The Physical Cost: Inflammation that makes my broken leg hurt more.
โŒ The Energy Cost: That heavy, sluggish feeling that hits 20 minutes after the sugar high.
โŒ The Mental Cost: The shame cycle that starts the moment the plate is empty.

The Paradox:
The thing that comforts you is also the thing hurting you.
Iโ€™m not telling you to diet today. I am inviting you to do a simple audit.

๐Ÿ‘‡ THE QUESTION:
Look at your current struggle. Is the "comfort" you get from the food worth the "price" you are paying in your health?
If the price is getting too high, drop a "๐Ÿ’ธ" below.

๐Ÿ”If you constantly struggle with:Mid-afternoon fatigue (The Crash...

If you constantly struggle with:
Mid-afternoon fatigue (The Crash)
Cravings for sweets right after eating
Weight accumulating around your belly

You do not have a willpower problem. You likely have Insulin Resistance.

Letโ€™s break down the science simply:

Think of your bodyโ€™s cells like a house.
To keep the lights on and the house warm, you need fuel (Glucose/Food) to get inside.
Insulin is the KEY that opens the front door to let that fuel in.

โœ… In a healthy metabolism:
You eat โžก๏ธ Insulin unlocks the door โžก๏ธ Fuel goes in โžก๏ธ You feel energized.

โŒ In Insulin Resistance:
Youโ€™ve been ringing the doorbell so many times (eating sugar/frequent snacking) that the lock has become "jammed" or resistant.

You eat โžก๏ธ Insulin tries to use the key, but the lock is stuck โžก๏ธ Fuel stays stuck in your blood (High Blood Sugar) โžก๏ธ Your cells starve.

The Result?
Your blood is full of sugar (toxic), but your cells are starving for energy (fatigue).
So your brain screams: "EAT MORE SUGAR!" trying to get energy in.
Itโ€™s a vicious cycle. You aren't greedy. Your cells are starving because the door is stuck.

The Fix:
We have to clean out the lock. This happens when we lower insulin levels (through fasting, low-carb nutrition, or movement) to let the sensitivity return.

๐Ÿ‘‡ CHECK IN:
Does this analogy make sense? Drop a "๐Ÿ”‘" if youโ€™ve ever felt like you just ate but your body is still screaming for energy.

12/22/2025

How many times have you eaten way too much on a Sunday night because "The Diet Starts Monday"?

We treat Monday like a judge who is going to sentence us to prison (a diet). So, we treat the weekend like a frantic party before the jail cell closes.

This is a trap.

As a Nurse Practitioner, I see the biological cost of this mindset.
Those Sunday binges spike your insulin and inflammation so high that by Monday morning, you are chemically craving more sugar. You are setting yourself up to fail before the week even begins.
The "Business By Design" Mindset Shift:
A CEO doesn't wait for "next week" to fix a bleeding bank account. They fix it the moment they see it.
Your metabolic health is the same.
There is no magic in Monday.
There is no glory in a "perfect start."
The Antidote:
The best time to reset your metabolism was 10 years ago.
The second best time is your very next bite.
Not tomorrow. Not Monday. Next bite.

๐Ÿ‘‡ COMMITMENT:
Drop the word "NOW" below if you are willing to break the "Monday" cycle and just make a good choice today.

Itโ€™s Sunday. Letโ€™s do a little thought experiment.

Imagine I came to your house today with a Magic Button.
I tell you: "If you press this button, your sugar cravings will vanish instantly. You will wake up tomorrow only wanting grilled chicken and vegetables. You will never desire a cookie, a glass of wine, or a bagel again."

Most people immediately say: "YES! Give me the button!"

But Dr. David Burns, the father of the CBT techniques I use, says we need to pause.

If you press that button, you lose the "comfort" of the cookie.
You lose the ritual of the wine at 5 PM.
You lose the "celebration" of the birthday cake.

That sadness? That is your Resistance.
And that is the real reason we struggle to stick to a plan. We aren't fighting the food; we are grieving the loss of the comfort it brings.
To reverse Metabolic Syndrome, we can't just rely on willpower. We have to negotiate with that part of us that is afraid to press the button.

๐Ÿ‘‡ TELL ME BELOW:

We have this toxic belief in the fitness world:
"Go Big or Go Home."
As a Nurse Practitioner and currently as a patient recovering from a broken fibula I am telling you to ignore that.

"Going Big" is often what leads to burnout and injury.
"Going Small" is what leads to sustainable change.
In this video, Iโ€™m doing my Physical Therapy. It doesn't look like much. Iโ€™m not sweating buckets. Iโ€™m not breaking records.
But I am signaling to my body that we are healing.
If you are dealing with Metabolic Syndrome, you might feel overwhelmed by the mountain you have to climb.

You might think, "I can't go to the gym, so I'll do nothing."
And it keeps you stuck.

Dr. David Burns teaches us to break the inertia by making the task so small you can't say no.
โŒ Can't walk 3 miles?
โœ… Walk to the mailbox.
โŒ Can't do 20 pushups?
โœ… Do 5 wall presses while your coffee brews.
In a month, those small movements compound. You will be in a completely different place than you are today.

If you saw my video last week, you know the saga of "The Shower."
Since fracturing my fibula, taking a shower felt like climbing Everest. It was terrifying. It was painful. So, I avoided it.

My brain whispered: "Itโ€™s too hard. You aren't ready. Just wait."
This is what Dr. David Burns calls "Emotional Reasoning."
We mistake our feelings for facts.
Because I felt scared, I assumed the shower was dangerous.
But once I actually got in? It was fine. In fact, it was healing. The fear was a liar.

I see this in Metabolic Health every single day.

You know you need to change your diet. You know you need to cut the sugar.
But your brain whispers:
"Itโ€™s going to be too hard."
"Iโ€™ll be miserable."
"I canโ€™t do it."
So you don't start. You stay in the "comfort zone" which, ironically, isn't very comfortable at all (just like sponge baths weren't comfortable for me!).

I used to think that being "strong" meant doing everything myself.
Running the business.
Managing the kids' schedules.
Handling the meals.
But since fracturing my fibula, that "Superwoman" cape has been forcibly removed. And honestly? Itโ€™s been a lesson I didn't know I needed.

I recorded this video to publicly thank the village that has stepped up.
To the moms in my hood walking my kids to the bus stop...
To the friends driving my kids to hockey practice...
Thank you.
Here is the connection to your health:
Isolation is inflammatory.
Trying to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders spikes your cortisol, which wreaks havoc on your blood sugar and metabolism.
We often overeat because we are lonely, overwhelmed, or unsupported.

So, part of my recovery strategy and yours isn't just about what's on your plate. It's about who is in your corner.

We are taught that to get healthy, we have to fight our bodies and hate our habits. We look at overeating or sugar addiction as a sign of weakness or a "defect" that needs to be surgically removed.

But since diving into Dr. David Burns' TEAM-CBT approach, Iโ€™ve realized we have it backward.

If you are dealing with Metabolic Syndrome, or just feeling stuck, let's be honest about the BENEFITS of staying exactly where you are:

1. ๐‘ช๐’๐’Ž๐’‡๐’๐’“๐’•: Food is a hug that doesn't ask questions.
2. ๐‘น๐’†๐’๐’Š๐’‚๐’ƒ๐’Š๐’๐’Š๐’•๐’š: When the day goes wrong (like breaking a fibula ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ), sugar is there.

We tell ourselves little lies as we hit midlife:
"I'm just getting older."
"I'm just a tired mom."
"My metabolism has slowed down."

But as a Nurse Practitioner, I look at the data. And often, what you call "aging" is actually Metabolic Syndrome.

Swipe through โžก๏ธ to see the 3 sneaky signs that your metabolic health needs attention.

Here is the science: When your cells stop responding to insulin (the key that unlocks energy), your body goes into storage mode.

1. You store fat in the belly.
2. Your energy crashes because fuel can't get in .
3. Your brain gets foggy.

This isn't a life sentence. It is a signal. And signals can be turned off.
