Evolutionary Connexion

Evolutionary Connexion Support of an approach to eating, fitness, and lifestyle that is compatible with our human evolution Our medical system specializes in Acute Care.

I am an Emergency Physician, and have been practicing conventional medicine since 1996. I have witnessed the shortfalls of modern medicine firsthand. Despite the incredible benefits provided by medications and surgical techniques, there seems to be something missing. Most of the individuals I treat are acutely ill but is the result of an advancing chronic condition, one that may have never needed to get this far. My interests are in getting people healthy, not just to make them feel better. We can bring people back from the brink of death. What we are not good at is management of chronic conditions, which is now heavily contributed to by our lifestyles. The intent of this page is to support and promote a way of eating & living that is compatible with our evolution, supported by archeological evidence, and research on hunter-gatherer societies that have thrived for millennia free of chronic illnesses, and degenerative conditions - not based on the mainstream media and research that is paid for by the pharmaceutical & food industries. I have elected to pursue certification in Functional Medicine, which focuses on management of chronic conditions through lifestyle modification, including diet, exercise, stress reduction, and nutrient supplementation when needed. The focus is on assessment and treatment of the individual rather than simply attempting to ameliorate a disease. Posting of information from Paleo / Primal communities, Weston A. Price Foundation, and other Ancestral Diet and Lifestyle sites; Institute of Functional Medicine; American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and others. The human body has evolved over the course of several million years to exist in a healthy state of being. This was based on a relatively active lifestyle, consumption of whole foods, and adequate sleep. For thousands of generations humans dealt with acute stressors, while today we live with chronic daily stress, which leads to inflammation and deterioration of our bodies. It is important that we optimize our lives to the best of our abilities, so as minimize our risk for disease and disability. Agriculture / Industrialization has contributed to a significant disruption in this healthy state, with ever-increasing use of pesticides, unhealthy seed oils, genetically modified foods, introduction of anti-nutrient grains/legumes into the diet, sedentary behavior, creation of feed lots instead of open pastures, and a lot of faulty science that we have been indoctrinated with for decades. This has led to the development of a pandemic of chronic medical conditions, autoimmune disorders, mental health disorders, obesity, inactivity, and generally poor health. Our hope is to:

~ Encourage others to seek out a better way of living, to eat the way our bodies have evolved to, which includes: grass-fed, pastured meats, wild game, wild-caught fish, abundant variety of vegetables and fruits that are grown naturally and not created in a lab or laden with pesticides;

~ Put forth concepts that can lead to disease prevention or resolution, and alleviate the burden of taking numerous pharmaceuticals and dependence on drug companies for our health

~Promote sustainable agricultural practices, the humane treatment of animals, and to leave a better world for those that follow us.
