Sacred Space

Sacred Space We are not defined by what we believe but by how we try to live, how we love, how we serve, how we show up for each other and for the world. We believe in Love.

We are a community centered in the teachings of Jesus, learning about the expansive nature of Love, and creating space to encounter and notice the Sacred in the midst of our busy lives on Long Island. We don't do any of this perfectly but we are learning, trying, and growing. Sacred Space became a community when through conversation several of us realized we all shared a deep longing for "Something More" than what we were currently finding in our busy daily lives, in our churches, in our friendships, in our yoga practices, or in trying to "do spirituality" on our own. Though we come from many places on Long Island we decided to meet weekly (or as often as we can make it) to create space for each of us to pay attention to how God is meeting us in each moment of our lives and how God is also sending us out to work for justice, to show compassion, and to try to reconcile people to one another in this politically and religiously fractured culture. An important thing to note about our group is that while we are centered in the teachings of Jesus we do not all come from the same religious background. We want to learn from one another. We appreciate and cooperate with other denominations, religions, and cultures. Your voice is important to our growth. We trust in Love. We want to grow in Love. You are invited to join our conversation. Whether you are still connected to a particular religious tradition, have walked away from religion altogether, are spiritual but not religious, are questioning, or simply want an imperfect community of people who will care for and challenge you to be open to God, you are invited.

Join us Wednesday, Nov. 15th at 7:30pm at the Glenwood Life Center for an important conversation about how we can live as people of faith in a world that is so divided and seems so scary. Where is God when terrible things keep happening? How can we join with our sisters and brothers of faith to show up for each other and for this world? How can we love well despite all the fear? The purpose of this conversation will be to move us from talking to doing, from anxiety to serving, from fear to love.

Thanks Cliff Kretkowski for leading "Listening to Your Life" tonight! We learned about spiritual direction and how by paying attention to our lives we can begin to discern the Sacred speaking into our stories, shaping us, and calling us forward on our journey.

Thank you Sasha Petukhova for creating Sacred Space for all of us tonight at our Contemplation and Community Retreat. We slowed down and breathed deeply, moving and stretching while paying attention to that which is deep within us, feeding each other through conversation and homemade veggie chili (thanks Nina Della Fera Gadaleta).

The thing I loved about knitting was the way it bridged the generations. All ages became learners and teachers. Anyone with the tiniest bit of experience knitting became a wise sage as those if us with no knitting knowledge sought out their wisdom. When the kids decided they wanted to knit adults left their chairs to sit on the floor with them. Everyone laughed with each other, learned something new, and helped the other. It was truly Sacred Space.
