Some things - like JNCO jeans, neon bodysuits and Tuberculosis - should be left in the past. 👀 😬 Our staff (bravely) shared these photos that they'd like to leave behind as a reminder of just that.

Tuberculosis (TB) might seem like a disease of the past, but recent outbreaks are a reminder that it’s still very much with us. The good news is that it can be prevented and treated.

If you may have been around someone with TB, or if you have symptoms like a cough that won’t go away, getting tested can help protect you and others. We’re here to help.

March is a season of fresh starts and it can be a good time to double-check the things that protect the whole household, pets included. 🐾 We’ve already seen our first rabies cases in Jeffco this year, a reminder that the virus is present in our community.

Rabies is 100% fatal once symptoms appear, but it’s also 100% preventable with vaccination. Keeping your pet up to date helps protect them, your family and the broader community — and it can prevent long quarantines or heartbreaking outcomes if there’s ever an exposure.

Wildlife like bats, raccoons and skunks are active in Jefferson County year-round, which makes staying current on rabies vaccination one of those quiet, powerful ways you help keep everyone safer.

We’ve already had a few hot days… and we’re not done yet. ☀️
If you’re heading out in the morning and staying out, wear layers so you’re ready for both the chill and the heat.

After a couple of warm days, the heat can start to add up. Drink water, take breaks in the shade and listen to your body.

Dry conditions are still raising fire risk, so stay alert and be careful with anything that could spark. Keep checking in, staying prepared and taking it easy during the hottest part of the day.

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) can put real money back in your pocket.💸

It’s a refundable tax credit for people who work and earn low to moderate incomes — which means you could get a refund even if you don’t owe taxes. For many families, that extra money helps cover everyday needs like rent, food, child care or car repairs.

If you worked and earned income in 2025, it’s worth checking. Find out more here: https://tax-credits.co/jeffco-social-2025

Cold morning. Hot afternoon. Classic Colorado....just not so classic in March. 🌡️
We’re heading into record-breaking heat across Jefferson County, with temps much warmer than normal for March.

If you’re leaving early and staying out most of the day, dress in layers so you can adjust as it warms up.

Even this early in the season, heat can impact your health. Try to stay cool, drink water and take breaks when you can.
With dry conditions, fire danger is also higher than usual, so stay alert and fire-safe. www.jeffco.us/3674/Severe-Weather-Extreme-Heat

Mañana fría. Tarde calurosa. Colorado clásico… aunque no tanto en marzo. 🌡️

Whole wheat tortillas are on the 2026 WIC list — so we’re putting them to work. 👏

These black bean quesadillas are crispy on the outside, melty in the middle and packed with fiber + protein thanks to the beans and whole grains. Easy win.

Here’s how we made them ⬇️

Ingredients (Makes 4 quesadillas):
• 4 corn or whole wheat tortillas
• ½ cup bell pepper, finely chopped
• ½ cup black beans (cooked or canned, drained)
• 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
• ¼ cup salsa
• ¼ cup chopped lettuce
• Vegetable oil spray

Steps:
1) Heat pan over medium and lightly spray with oil.
2) Place tortilla in pan.
3) Add ¼ of the bell pepper, beans, and cheese to one side.
4) When cheese starts to melt, fold in half.
5) Press gently and flip to brown both sides.
6) Slice, top with salsa + lettuce, and serve warm.

Spring is chick season! 🐣 For many chicken owners, that means adding new baby birds. It’s also the time of year when diseases like avian flu can spread more easily, especially through wild birds, dirty shoes or new additions.

A few simple habits can help keep your birds healthy. Keep coops and runs covered to limit contact with wild birds. Wear shoes and clothes that are only used for the coop and wash your hands before and after caring for your birds. Change food and water daily, clean feeders and tools often, store feed in sealed containers and try to limit visitors to your coop.

Small steps now can help protect your birds all season long.

Here are some tips from Xcel Energy Colorado on how to prepare for a PSPS (Public Safety Power Shutoff):

Prepare Your Home
• Turn your refrigerator and freezer to the coldest settings so food stays safe longer if the power goes out.
• Unplug or switch off electronics and appliances that could be damaged by a power surge when electricity is restored.
• Keep portable power banks charged and make sure you have extra batteries available.
• Choose a safe outdoor area for generators, grills, and camp stoves, and check that they are in good working order. Never use them inside or in enclosed spaces.
• Make sure everyone in your household knows how to open the garage door manually if needed.

Prepare Yourself and Your Community
• Write down important phone numbers and emergency contacts so you can reach them even if devices lose power.
• Keep a well-stocked first aid kit at home with enough supplies for everyone in your household.
• Have extra prescription and over the counter medications ready, especially if anyone in your home relies on medication that needs special storage.
• Fully charge medical devices ahead of time and make sure backup power is available for any equipment that requires electricity.
• Check on neighbors who may need extra help, including older adults and people with disabilities.
• Do not forget to include food, water, medications, and other essentials for your pets in your emergency planning.

Spring break often means more time near water. A few simple water safety steps can make a big difference. Layers of protection help — like swim lessons, CPR training for caregivers and U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets near open water.

Small actions add up to safer splash days. 💧
