💎💎The GEMS that make Goshen EMS shine - Spotlight Katharine Werlitz 💎💎. This week, we’re proud to highlight EMT-B Katharine Werlitz, who has been serving with Goshen EMS for the past 8 months.
Katharine was inspired to pursue EMS by her father and brother, both of whom served as EMTs. Growing up around the field sparked a passion for helping others that led her to follow in their footsteps.
In her role, Katharine finds the greatest fulfillment in being there for patients on their worst days and providing comfort when it’s needed most. She also credits her coworkers as a major source of motivation, describing them as a supportive team that makes even the toughest shifts easier.
Over her first year in EMS, Katharine is especially proud of how much she has grown—particularly in her charting skills—and continues to build confidence with every call. She believes one of the most important qualities of an EMT is the ability to make patients feel safe and at ease.
Her advice to those considering EMS: come in with a positive mindset and a true passion for helping others—because it shows in the care you provide.
Fun Facts:
Katharine works part-time at a coffee shop, prefers night shifts, and despite working in EMS, has a fear of needles and broken bones. After a shift, you can usually find her grabbing her favorite meal at Chipotle! Katie’s co-workers describe her as fun and outgoing. Katie makes everyone laugh and has become a valued member of the team. Katie was a graduate of last year’s OU Boces EMT program whose students often ride with Goshen EMS for clinical hours. It was during this clinical rotation that Katie stood out as an EMT Goshen EMS would be proud to employ.
