Did you know I wrote a book in 2020?

Right in the middle of motherhood — no extra time, no quiet house. I wrote it because being a mom is hard and holy and exhausting… and somehow still always worth it.

It’s honest. Real life. Real kids.
Not the highlight reel — the heart of it.

Motherhood stretches you, changes you, and gives you more than it takes.
That’s what the book is about.

Birth is my jam. First time mom never gave up. Had an OP baby. Did some hip squeezes. First one “oh h*ll yeah”
Got her to lock and load with position changes. Under 1 hour of pushing. Moms are incredible. And I love my jobbbbb

Throw back to September 1988. When I was born and I had a fever and so unannounced to my parents I was taken back for a spinal tap and then admitted to the NICU with a needle in my head for antibiotics. All without my mom and dad knowing where I was.

Maybe this is what sparked my passion for advocating for people?! Hmmm

People sometimes ask how birth work and homeschooling fit together for me.

The answer is my kids.

Homeschooling them has stretched my patience in ways nothing else has.
It’s taught me how to slow down, how to pause, how to listen and focus on my kids. Not my schedule or to do list.

I’ve learned to watch.
To wait.
To let them struggle a little because I know they can do it.
That’s exactly how I show up in birth work.

Seeing someone in the middle of something hard and trusting their ability to move through it.
Sitting quietly without taking over.
Loving the potential you can already see.
My kids have taught me that growth doesn’t need to be forced.
It needs to be supported.

That’s why this work feels so similar for me.
It’s the same method—at home and at births.

That’s a wrap on week 26 of school! Here’s a look at our history, Bible, and literature.

This week we read from The Ology, traveled back in time with Around the World with Kate and Mack: A Child’s History of the World as we explored Roman history, and read some of the corresponding Time Traveler Roman history pages. We my kids don enjoy Book of Animal Poetry but we gotta do it.

For science, we’ve been reading The Sassafras Science Adventures. It’s been our gentle science lesson to finish out the year, and next year we’ll move to a more formal textbook. Thankfully the kids are naturally curious and are constantly consuming science facts anyway.

My 2nd and 4th graders breezed right through their readers and are already onto next week. Homeschooling really is such a gift.🥹🥹🥹🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

Most people think a doula is just there for labor.
That’s part of it—but it’s not really the point.

What I wish more moms knew before deciding if a doula is “worth it”:

A doula isn’t there to enforce a birth plan.
Plans change. Birth changes. The support shouldn’t disappear when things don’t go as expected.

Your partner isn’t being replaced.
If anything, they’re supported too—so they’re not carrying the pressure of “doing it right” alone.

Birth is emotional, not just physical.
Feeling safe, heard, and steady in your body matters just as much as positions or breathing techniques.

Postpartum support is often overlooked.
That early window after birth can be intense, and having someone who understands that matters.

You don’t need a scary story or a high-risk label to deserve support.
Wanting care is reason enough.

This work isn’t about doing birth for someone.
It’s about walking alongside them through a huge life transition.

If you’re pregnant and wondering what kind of support you want—or whether you want support at all—you’re not behind. You’re paying attention.

One of our favorite things to do after read aloud time is send a picture from the reading to ChatGPT and ask it to turn it into a realistic picture. It helps the kids visualize the story better. AND it’s fun!

Birth is unpredictable—but support shouldn’t be.

As a doula, my role is to walk alongside you with steady presence, evidence-based information, and calm reassurance—whether you’re birthing in a hospital or at home. I support families through informed decision-making, advocacy, and continuous care so you never feel alone in the process.

There is no “right” way to give birth—only your way. And you deserve to feel supported, heard, and respected every step of the way.

👋 I’m Mary Piasecki, from Clarkston, MI.
💼 I’m a doula and a homeschooling mom. I love supporting moms—any kind of birth, at home or in the hospital. I started training back in 2018 and haven’t looked back.

💖 Favorite things: Going for walks, playing board games, and spending time with my family and friends.

🎯 Fun fact: I once got dragged by a lawn mower. True story. 😅

🌱 Currently loving: Remembering what summer feels like, going to the gym with friends, and sipping on tea.

Drop a fun fact about you in the comments—I want to hear your stories!

“Some of the sweetest words I hear come from second- (or third-) time mamas: ‘I wish I’d had you for my previous births.’ 🥹
Hearing that reminds me how much continuous, knowledgeable support can change the entire experience—and how powerful it feels to finally have it. One mama put it perfectly after her positive birth with me:
‘I have zero complaints! We had such a positive experience & wish we had hired Mary for our previous births.’
From prenatal planning that eases anxiety, to being an extra set of hands so your partner can stay right by your side, to calm guidance through every surge—having a doula means you’re not figuring it out alone this time.
If you’re thinking ‘what if’ about past births or preparing for the next one, let’s make this one feel different (in the best way). Message me to chat! 🤍
