Zero tolerance policy

The practice fully supports a Zero Tolerance Policy. The aim of this policy is to tackle the increasing problem of violence, yelling and disrespect against staff working in Michigan Orthodontic Specialists and ensures that doctors and all other staff have a right to care for others without fear of being attacked or abused. We understand that ill patients do not always act in a reasonable manner and will take this into consideration when trying to deal with a misunderstanding or complaint. All incidents will be followed up and you will be sent a formal warning after a second incident or removed from the practice list after a third incident if your behavior has been unreasonable. However, aggressive behavior, be it violent or verbal abusive, will not be tolerated and may result in you being removed from The Practice list and, in extreme cases, the Police will be contacted if an incident is taking place and the patient is posing a threat to staff or other patients. Removal from the practice list

A good patient-doctor relationship, based on mutual respect and trust, is the cornerstone of good patient care. The removal of patients from our list is an exceptional and rare event and is the last resort in an impaired patient-practice relationship. When trust has irretrievably broken down, it is in the patient’s interest, just as much as that of Michigan Orthodontic Specialists, that they should find a new practice. An exception to this is on immediate removal on the grounds of violence e.g. when the Police are involved.

Important Announcement For All Patients

Dear patients and families:

On Sept. 30, 2024 I will be closing Michigan Orthodontic Specialist in Grand Blanc.
I will be here to help you all transfer your treatment or remove your braces until the closing date. Each of your stages of treatment and potential outcomes are unique, and I will be meeting with each of you to help you make the best decision for your continuing care.

I have enjoyed working, and more importantly, being with many of you while improving your smiles. I have treated 100’s of people, who used their new smiles to laugh, eat, and make new friends with confidence. It has been a privilege to provide this service to you all and I will continue my duty to you as much as I can.

Life and business are intertwined intimately. I met my wife, Miriam, on the first day of
dental school. She is now the Chief Dental Officer of a large health care non-profit
organization in Oakland, CA. My business here has been profitable for many people, creating new careers and providing for many families. I am most proud of that fact! My goal was (and is) to transfer this business, in order to continue the good work. But unfortunately, I have not been able to find a new business partner.

But! There are many orthodontists in the Grand Blanc/Flint area. People in braces move and need to continue care everyday. Our situation is similar, and fortunately, we are here to help.

Options Until the Closing Date:

Patients may have their braces removed by us or attempt to continue treatment with a local orthodontist. A retainer may be necessary depending on what treatment you received.

After the closing date (or if transferring) patients may obtain their records for transfer
electronically. Email the office at bestsmile@dradamsortho.com and let us know where you want the records sent. This will include all photos, scans and x-rays, and the AAO transfer form stating the status of your treatment.

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) has some good information for
transferring patients. Please read the “Advice for the Transferring Orthodontic Patient.” They also have an “Introduction of Transferring Patient” form and “Request for Release of Records” form which will be useful if you decide to transfer.

Financial considerations: And of course, everyone has a different status of their account. Your account will be adjusted using the formula given to you at the beginning of treatment. Depending on what you have paid or not paid, what your insurance has paid or not paid, and how long you were in treatment will determine your balance.

I want to thank you all for your trust, and especially cooperation with treatment and
payments. Our low down-payment start plan has helped many patients who could not afford a large down payment for braces get care and also have brothers and sisters and parents get treatment at the same time. I am glad for the 25 years of being a part of the Flint community.

Sincerely,
Dr. Clement V. Adams II

Braces and August heat? Keep your smile cool and clean with our top tips for maintaining comfort and hygiene:

1. Drink Plenty of Water: Stay hydrated to prevent dry mouth, which can exacerbate discomfort from braces.

2. Brush and Floss Regularly: Clean braces and teeth after every meal to prevent food particles from getting trapped and causing decay.

3. Use Orthodontic Wax: Apply wax to brackets or wires that might irritate your mouth, especially during hot weather when braces can feel more uncomfortable.

4. Eat Cooling Foods: Enjoy cold treats like yogurt, smoothies, or ice water to soothe any soreness caused by braces.
