When your child is hurting but you are experiencing your own trauma 💔 parenting can feel impossible

Supporting your child after trauma can be difficult because their reactions and behaviors are extreme and often dont make sense. Many parents find that their child’s struggles can trigger their own trauma.

You are doing your best during this difficult time.
Healing and parenting can happen at the same time.
You don’t have to be perfect to be a safe, loving parent.

With awareness, support and compassion you can navigate the storm as a family. If you are a parent navigating your child’s trauma while managing your own, your not alone.

Some of the most important conversations with children start with a story. 💗

Rosie’s Big Secret helps children learn the difference between safe and unsafe secrets and reminds them that they can always talk to a trusted adult.

When kids have the words, they have the power to speak up.

Thank you to the readers who have shared such kind reviews and for helping spread this important message about child safety.

📚 Have you read it with a child in your life yet?

When a child experiences trauma, their behavior often becomes the language they use to communicate what they cannot put into words.

Trauma changes how a child experiences safety, trust, and relationships. Their brain and body can remain on high alert long after the traumatic experience has passed. This means their reactions are not about being a “bad child.” They are about protection.

As parents, caregivers, teachers, and clinicians, our role is not to punish the behavior — it is to understand the message behind it.

When we shift from focus on behavior to the focus on regulation we create space for healing.

Children heal in relationships where they feel safe, believed, and regulated.

And often, what they need most is an adult who can stay calm enough to help their nervous system find safety again.

We talk about child sexual abuse.
We don’t talk about sibling sexual abuse.

And that silence is costing children — and families — deeply.

Sibling Sexual Trauma/Abuse (SSTA) is one of the most common and least discussed forms of abuse. It’s underreported. Undertrained. And often mishandled because professionals were never taught how to navigate the complex family dynamics involved.

As a clinician — and as a parent — I know how layered this work is.

This training will help you:
✔ Understand the unique family system impact
✔ Recognize secondary trauma in parents
✔ Respond without increasing shame or harm
✔ Strengthen safety planning and therapeutic support

It’s time to break the silence.

Join me March 20th.
4 CE hours. Online.
