First, I focused too much on calories and exercise and not enough on gut health and hormones.
Some women lost a little weight, but they didn’t feel well.

Second, I pushed people to “try harder” when what they really needed was better data—labs, root-cause testing, and real support.

Third, I underestimated how much stress and life load impact a woman’s ability to heal.
You can’t out-diet a nervous system that’s on fire.

Let me give you 5 science-backed reasons weight loss is harder after 35—and none of them are “you’re lazy.”

Number 1: Insulin resistance. Your cells stop listening to insulin, so you store more fat—especially around the belly.
Number 2: Cortisol. Chronic stress keeps you in fat-storage mode and drives cravings.
Number 3: Gut dysbiosis. The wrong microbes can increase inflammation and even change hunger signals.
Number 4: Sleep disruption. Poor sleep wrecks hunger hormones and blood sugar control.
Number 5: Inflammation. Low-grade inflammation makes your body feel unsafe, so it hangs on to weight.

If cravings or exhaustion are constant, it’s usually not a willpower problem.
It’s your brain and hormones asking for quick fuel or relief.

That might mean unstable blood sugar, high cortisol, poor sleep, or a gut that isn’t absorbing nutrients well.
